Unable to install Steam

I just opened a new purchase of FS13 and started the CDROM install. It gets to where it wants to update Steam, tries, get to about 13% then says Unable try again later. I've tried everything I can think of, turned off antivirus, malware, firewall, even added "http://farming-simulator.com" to safe sites in router software; but nothing seems to get me beyond this point. I've even done a "repair" in the control panel to Steam. It allows it to try again, but no further progress.

Two questions:

1) Can I install FS13 without using Steam? (I don't need to link up with anyone else and I can install updates myself.)
2) If installation without Steam is not possible, what suggestions do you have to get it to finish installation?

If your DVD Version is a Steam version of the game (which I think it is), you can not get around Steam.
As a way to fix your problem, I would suggest to try to install Steam first before installing the game. To do this, you can go to http://store.steampowered.com/about/ and download the Steam Client. If this fails to install, you should contact Valve/Steam directly, since this is not related to our game.
Once Steam is installed, you can try to launch the Installer on the DVD again. Or you can directly install the game from the Steam client by opening the "Games" menu and select "Activate a product on Steam" where you can enter your product key (Here is also a description: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_art ... -TFBN-1352)

Thanks. That makes sense to me. I did try to run the Steam install by itself from the CD and had the same results. I'll try the web link though and if that doesn't work I'll contact them. I'm sure that the game will be fine once I get past the steam problems.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Your two links worked great! The Steam link let me download a newer version of Steam which then let me "add a game" using the product code and I downloaded FS13 successfully. Everything is running great, (and I'm already downloading Mods... : ) I love it!!!

I bought FS13 since I've heard there were issues with FS15 that still need to be fixed. As soon as I hear of it working from my buddies, I'll buy FS15 too.
