Its a shame they didn't add breakdowns based on vehicle age (configurable in the options of course). That would also make the pickup usefull as a service truck to drive to the broken down tractor to fix it. If the breakdowns happen too much, you will want to upgrade (or simply replace). Have you tried to ONLY enable one map mod in the mod selection screen? It could be a conflict between multiple map mods.
I always ensure I have only 1 map mod enabled.

Yup, at the vehicle customization (is that a word?) you can select 'no fertilizing'
