[SOLVED] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
[SOLVED] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
Hi all, this is a bit long but all the info is needed to understand where I'm coming from.
I have invested 650 hours into this game on the Ravenport map. Started on hard and worked my way up from the cheap fields near town, then the standard farm, then moved on to the BGA and made my large vehicle farm in two parts. Every part of the own-able landscape remade and all in-game(some very cool pics on Steam - eViLoZzy). I tested and settled on 26 mods, all at a low cost to my system and get a stable 60fps looking in all directions on 'near to' max graphic settings with about 55fps in the middle of town, very happy with the stability of this game until,,,
I reached my 4th large animal pen placement, which went fine, again 20+ hours of landscaping and placements. I then proceeded to filling this 4th pen with animals(sheep) and was shocked that I may have found the game limit. If I accidentally clicked on any of the animal Title Headings, the game froze my entire system. Just the fact that this game can make me hard-boot my computer was sickening as I don't use software that can do that, not even Prepar3dv4.4 with an entire OrbX suite plus intense payware aircraft can lock up my PC, if that software crashes, its just a typical CTD.
So I decided to reinstall FS19 and start a new game, with no mods and graphics set to medium. I then sold the barns etc and placed three large animal pens on the site, then bought 10 of each animal for sheep and cows, 40 in each pen, but I only got to 20 pigs before the game locked up again when clicking an animal section heading, so I tried many different combinations of animals and got the same result each time. I simply can not have any more than 2 large animal pens and a good compliment of animals without this crash happening. If I don't click the Heading for an animal set, everything is perfect.
This leads me to believe that there is a serious fault in the animal code and trust me, I have tested this now over 20 times, and rebooted my PC 20 times grrrrr. And to test my PC, although it was not needed, I loaded up Assassin's Creed Odyssey with my usual Ultra graphic settings and it ran flawlessly at 60fps.
For me now, it's a minimal animal collection, or leave the game, 650 hours was a good run so no complaints but damn, it's just not right.
So, any thoughts as to anything else that may cause this, keeping in mind that I am a PC tech by trade and can assure you that it's not my PC.
As I said, if I don't click on the animals heading/title, the game runs fine.

I have deleted every aspect of this game and re-installed again, just a few minutes ago, tried the same process and can have as many animals as I want in the pens, but one touch of the Heading text and and it crashes again. Nothing else causes the crash, just that menu text when clicked. Also just did a stint in Fallout 4(running 88 mods) to finish up Nuka World, flawless gameplay at 60fps so I'm not going to bother much more with this 10GB game :/

Re: System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
This is my log.txt - the bottom section is the test setup with low end graphics set. I've even defaulted my overclock to stock for these tests. I've combed over it and there's nothing pointing to an issue as the log doesn't explain crashes and reasons for them.
Edit don_apple: log.txt converted into spoiler for better thread readability.
Re: System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
If you ever figure it out. please let me know. I have a $4,000 pc set up. I know, I will never need that. I have a few things bridged together, Had it custom made. I had same issue on fs 17, Now on fs 19, only mine didnt do it untill after 7 large animal pens. not even full of animals. I was in one of my semi's driving when it crashed. Ive tried everything several times also. Even sold over $300,850,000 of equipment and tools back ( that was at Half price or lesser value, than was purchased for). Im at a loss. Not sure what to do. The capacity for my cow barns is 200 head each and I only have half in each just so I can keep up with the manure and milk. Seems to work better for me that way in between plantings. I cant even play at all now. the game comes up but when you try to walk or drive or even zoom either direction, it "inches along"!!! I do have one of the best video and graphics cards available as well as everything else. Even have "tera bytes of ram and harddrive bridged together as well as 2 $ quad processors bridged. I know its not my equipment and I know my equipment will last me a lifetime. Even have 6 cooling fans with a 750 watt convertor. I can use my pc for a server for a whole town if I wanted to. But I still cant play the game... Any Ideas??? Hopefully Giants will proofread this and get back with me, or us!!!
Re: [READ] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
@Lee66: does the issue only happen with that one specific savegame, or does it also happen when you start a complete new career without any mods on one of the two standard maps?

Re: [READ] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
I can confirm this "crash" happening, on default map without mods.
Here is a zip of my savegame (~4 MB).
Using patch 1.3.0.1, load the savegame, then navigate to the animals screen, and use only mouse to scroll up/down in the list of animal pens and click randomly at the rows in the scrollable panel. - At some point, the game 'locks up' ("Not responding").

Re: [READ] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
Hi Don,
Yes mate, and more than 10 attempts with completely new game saves on a fresh install of the game, I even moved all of my mods to another folder. After some research I found this issue to be directly associated with a memory leak, and the system hang is due to the OS trying to report it back to Microsoft. There are a few 'possible explanations on this issue if you Google Black Ops 3 memory leak.
Either way, I thought I would do a 'quick' system restore as a last resort, but it failed due to my Win10pro being an upgrade from Win7pro and now I have just finished installing Windows 7 pro again to test this game once more, before upgrading to Win10 again. I was going to do this re-install anyway as it's been a few years.
The funny thing is, if I don't touch those Animal headings, the game runs fine, and with many mods and a full map of edited areas. But a hard boot is a serious matter for a game crash.

Re: [READ] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
Since you're having a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, may I suggest to have a look at this thread. Your log shows a driver dated from January and according to your card, it should be the 430.39 version dated April 23rd. However, this latest fix may resolve your issue with a memory leak. In any case, it won't cause any harm to update it. Hoping it may help, have a good day !
Re: [READ] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
I was using the 430 driver just before my reinstall of windows not too many hours ago and still the same crashing result, I have the driver installed on Win7pro but can't do any testing until I have finished setting up my rig again. It will be later today. Try to remember that just because certain software works for you, that exact software can fail for others. I'm 99% convinced that this is not a NVDIA issue. I play way too many hi-end games that make FS19 look like a facebook app, most sitting around the 100GB mark and using up to 24GB of my RAM and all cpu cores.
Will update this saga within the next 10 hours, but if it still fails, I'm out.
Cheers.

Re: [READ] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
For now, this is the end for me and this game, I'm done.
I'm also convinced that the latest update has something to do with this horrible crashing of peoples systems. I am now stuck back on Windows 7 pro because the upgrade offer to Windows 10 pro had expired without me noticing, so next week I'm forking out what ever amount to go back to where I was at before this disaster. I also put my CPU, And GPU though a extensive testing with two different benchmark programs and everything is still perfect. I really shouldn't have bothered because if anything was wrong with my gear, Fallout 4, AC(all), P3Dv4, Rise of The Tomb Raider, Farcry 5, ETS2, ATS and many more would not work, or at least crash after a while, yet I can play for hours.
So this game is the problem and I'm out until Giants work it out, or don't...
I will load up FS17 again as I had about 50 mods running and still a solid 60fps and after a looksee, there's a lot more mods out and they are still making them, so many players have returned to FS17.
Cheers,
Lee

Re: [READ] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
im having issues on console with the same thing, 22 hours with 4 pens and i crash constantly, its ******** and giants told me it was a lizard mod but not which one ....
Re: [READ] System crash after 3 large pens, Possible menu bug
LOL got fooled into trying again to play this game. Purchased and installed Windows 10 Pro 64bit, brand new OS set up with all the latest drivers, re-seated GTX 1080ti and removed 16GB of my RAM to provide more cooling around the CPU. Tested (extensively) all hardware with benchmark programs and a 12 hour 'burn-in' running at 2560x1440, all results clean and positive. Clean install of FS19, no mods, new map, 4 pens placed, 5 of each animal in each pen = Hard System Crash! Log off/reboot required.
I couldn't even get a screen shot of Speccy to prove that my hardware is running perfectly - CPU=38c : GPU=35c : Motherboard=31c : RAM modules= 35c : All Hard Drives=low 30's. These are the temps at the time of system lock-up. I can see these specs at mid 70's to mid 80's after a long stint in a hi-end game and the system keeps running smoothly.
Again, it's directly linked to the animal logistics menu and the system locks up when touching an animal heading.
And Submitting a help request seems pointless at this point as the assigned 'helper' will just try and blame 'my' system, or mods that I'm not even using :/
This is a matter for the top end of the Giants coding team - The issue may be related to the GTX 1080ti but it seems other players are having the same issues, even console players.

That's great news and thanks for making it an issue to be dealt with Lethian.
I will keep an eye out for a pending fix, then try again
