"save game" !?

Post by W1der » Sat Jul 30, 2016 1:36 pm

I am pretty new to MP since I have very bad experience from it ...
But I found a fellow Swede that has a dedicated server and it works very well!

Just one question ...
What does the "save game" option do (do I have to use it)!?

if you have admin rights on their dedicated server and have logged in in-game admin, then when you press the save-game UI button it triggers the dedicated server to save at that point, otherwise it saves automatically at the pre-prescribed interval set on the dedicated server web GUI.

if you don't have admin rights, then save game option dose nothing (is greyed out on windows if I recall when not admin - don't know if its greyed out on OSX or whatever OS your using on you Mac)

OK ...

But ... even if I am logged in as an "admin" ... I do not have to use the "save option", when leaving the game (as it "auto saves") !?

the "auto saves" time is every 60mins minimum if I recall, there was a time you could use a value at low as 15min, however that was removed for some reason, so it can be wise to manually save periodically at key moments, e.g. before a big purchase, before you go AFK for 10mins, when you have finished as seeding/cultivation or harvesting a field, given you can potentially lose 60mins of work done if the server crashes, or someone dose something major, etc.

OK ... but in theory (if the server does not crash) ... the save function does not have to be used ...!?
If so ... I get it ... :)

err not quite, as one of the options for auto-save is to have it turned OFF, so if auto-save is OFF then you have to manuly save!

so you need to ask the host if he has auto-save ON for the server and at what interval it is set. (the defult setting is 180min or more I think)
