Heightmaps

Post by Cajunwolf »

I was wondering if it is possible to import a heightmap made in another program like GeoControl, TerraGen, or L3DT. I do this a lot when creating a new map for other games like BF42, BF2, and mods built on the unreal engine, and they all use the same sizes and the powers of 2, like 1028, 2048, and 4096. I was scanning the map01.i3d in Notepad++ (it's nothing more than an xml file), and I saw the call for a standard heightmap with the typical 0-255 range, and was wondering.

i know there is a way to export google earth terrain into a heightmap for the GE. but its not 100% accurate (the google Earth terrain is very rough)
maybe there are tools to export from other Geo programs as well,

btw, of course the i3d file is a xml, the game only knows lua and xml :D

Yeah, that makes things a lot easier in some ways, and hard in others, but I like it. I'm a programmer and DBA, so I eat this stuff up. ;-)
