Farming rig build

Post by Tsikows »

I am looking to build a pc for farming. As of right now my only plans for this computer will literally be only for playing farming simulator 2017. Maybe down the road I might play some other games? And possibly some cad software, and light video editing when I start a YouTube channel. Maybe. So as of right now I've decided on an i5-6600k and either a gtx970 or a gtx1060. I know absolutely nothing about this stuff and I'm looking for some help deciding. I see the 970 has good speed, but the 1060 has more, but has one less gig of ddr5. But then the 1060 is also $80 less. On top of that there are so many different models of the two just from one brand. Someone helpppp!!!

GTX 1060 for sure, it almost as good as the GTX 980, yet you are getting it between a GTX 960 and GTX 970's price range. *thumbsup*

Did a little research and put together what I think will be a good build. Will be ordering everything through newegg for simplicity.

I5 6600k combo with
Asus z170-p
Geil Evo potenza 2-8gb

Corseair graphite 230t case

Wd 1tb 7200 rpm

Corsair cx600 power supply

Samsung 250gb 750 ssd

Gigabyte Gtx 1060

Is there anything that I am missing?

Depending on your budget, the following suggestion might benefit you.

Add a second SSD drive. Install OS and other apps on primary SSD, then install games (like FS15/17) on second SSD drive.
Happy Farming!

You're missing Windows 10 on your build. :smileynew:

Ah yes I did forget to add os BUT I will not be going with win10. Absolutely hate hate hate it. Couldn't even find my control panel to customize anything. Had to factory reset my laptop to get rid of the junk. So win 8 is what I will run

Would a second ssd really be needed if I'm really only planning to play one game? Maybe it could be a down the road upgrade?

Perhaps not, but who just plays one game? Joking of course.

The advantage is not just space. But read/write efficiency between the games and the OS.

Windows 8?!?!?!?! With Windows 10, right click on Start Menu, then you can get to control panel. Type in Start Menu control panel. Type in Start Menu "Show or Hide Common Desktop Icons" then put it on your desktop. Many ways you can do, do not go with Windows 8, go to Windows 10, I love it so much. I honestly don't see the reason why to go to 8.

Everything that comes factory has bloatware, Windows 8 and Windows 10, that's just how it is. Unless you do the complete install yourself.

Is there really any physical advantage to 10 over 8 or is it all cosmetic changes?

Much, much more than just cosmetic if your budget will allow.

I so agree! *thumbsup*

Windows 10 has so much more options, better looking icons/UI, better performance, DX12, Windows Game DVR (I love this when I record!!!), faster, cleaner, even more customizable than Windows 8... Oh, and that's just the beginning!! :smileynew:  I currently use Windows 10 Pro and it is so lovely, and with the Anniversary Update, it just makes me love Windows 10 even more! :D

Everything is just better with Windows 10 than old Windows 8. Windows 10 lasts to 2025 - Windows 8.1 - 2023 (Rather have Windows 10 for longer use ;))

Prices:
Windows 10 Home USB: $119.99
Windows 10 Pro USB: $199.99

If you buy it at Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. it comes with USB installation media, instead of with Windows 8/8.1 it was DVD. USB is so much faster than DVD, trust me, I have installed the 4gb updates from Windows 10 (they try to release two a year) on other computers and by far USB is the fastest and loads significantly faster.

There is a ton more I could take about with Windows 10. :gamer:

If your planning on the ssd, you could skip the wd hd altogether. Also, if you are planning on upgrading it in the future, make sure that you plan for it now. Your motherboard looks fine as it can handle a i7, but you might want to go with a different power supply. It might be alright now, but if you go with a i7 cpu and/or multiple video cards, it may not be enough. As far as cooling goes, see what they recommend for the i5. You probably only need a decent air cooler, not a liquid cooler.

Plus, liquid coolers, in my opinion, are a lot of work. It's just a lot more money in the end. Air cooling is probably your best route and cheaper.
