Are there any informations about the rendering API the game uses? DirectX, OpenGL or Vulkan? Please say it's NOT OpenGL, the drivers are (from all 3 companies) horrible.

FS17 will use DirectX 11.

cant say I have a problem with OpenGL in fs11, fs13 or fs15, it has been floorless 99.999% of the time, on the other hand forcing fs15 to use DirectX 9 just resulted in CTD >90% and lockups the other 10% of the time.

so I hope OpenGL isn't gone and is still the primary render API

It was said by the lead programmer of Giants Software Stefan Geiger at the FS community event "FarmCon". Unfortunately I can't provide a written source.

No, I'm not an employee of Giants Software. But you can take my word for it anyway. :coolnew:

FS17 uses DirectX11 by default. But if you want, you can change it back to OpenGL in the game.xml. Pretty much like switching from OpenGL to DirectX in FS15.

Is the OS X version of the game going to support this!?

So much stuff to keep track of ... :blushnew:

Good.
Do you plan to eventually add support for Vulkan by chance?

I desperately hope there going to be an English map, with tight lanes, hedges and gated fields, I can't stand the massive maps with perfectly square open fields you can just drive across. No farm I've ever been or worked on has been like that. So glad there's fendt at last though!

I second that ... !

I was thinking about starting a new game on Sosnovka or Westbridge hills yesterday ... but after looking around on the maps for a while ... those long perfectly straight roads just made me depressed.
Looks more like a huge airfield to me ...

Haha tell me about it. I just lose any motivation as soon as I see the type of modded maps out there. We can only hope Giants have seen the millions of people wanting the same type of map and will make it happen

perhaps what they need to do when FS19 comes around to being developed, is to make as set of dynamic hedges, fences and gates which can be turned on/off when you first start a map save, that way they can please both groups of people while retaining the same map.

the same could be extended to architecture, though instead of turning it on/off it switches building sets, e.g. the only difference between parts of the UK and northern France and Belgium is the building architecture and some road furniture and the side of the road driven on.
