Hi.

Here in this topic we can gather all the tips, tricks, helping ideas discovered and experienced :search: by Farming Simulator players (and programmed :gamer: by developers).

Re: FS16 Tips and Tricks - Avoiding collision at the end of the field

Post by hasab »

How to avoid collision into objects near the field?

If you work with autohelper and the vehicle collides with an object at the end of the field, you can change the direction of moving with 90 degree, for example if the tractor moves to North-South direction on the field and get stuck in some object like shed, house, rock, tree, etc., you can change the moving direction to West-East, mostly there is no obstruction.

If you are in a harvester that is full, or you are done with the field and want to dump the grain...

Just honk :)

If there is a tractor with a trailer attached nearby (that is either empty or contains the fruittype you have in the harvester) he will automatically come and drive next to your harvester to get the grain then return to where he was. :hi:

Note: You need to have stopped, if you keep driving the harvester, then the helper will not come.

Re: FS16 Tips and Tricks - Increase yield of crops

Post by hasab »

How to increase yield of the crops?

You can increase the yield of crops by fertilizing the sowed field.
3 type of fertilizer can be used:
1., Water: It costs money to fill the sprayer. (You can fill up the sprayer at the waterdrop-signed fill point.)
2., Manure: It's free. Give straw to the cows to get manure. You can produce straw by harvesting wheat and then gather the cut straw with Baler or Loading wagon. To gather the manure you need to stand a manure spreader wagon to the manure place near the cattle barn. To spread manure onto field you need a tractor to pull the manure spreader.
3., Slurry: It's free. The Biogas plant can produce slurry from wheat, canola or chaff. You need to fill up at least one of the tree containers of the Biogas plant with crop to start producing slurry. You need a slurry tank, and a tractor to pull it. You can fill up the slurry tank at the slurry fill point inside the plant.

"Fertiliser improves yield, not growth time.
Basically if you fertilise, you grow more.
For example. No fertiliser and it takes three fields to fill a trailer.
With fertiliser, the same trailer only takes one field to fill.
End result, more crop to sell!

Re: FS16 Tips and Tricks - Quickly change vehicle

Post by hasab »

How to quickly change to the needed vehicle without switching through all vehicles with the tractor button?

Open the map and tap on the red point of the needed vehicle than close the map and now you are sitting in the selected vehicle.

Meaning of coloured points on the map:
Red = driveable vehicles like tractors, trucks, transporters, etc. When tapped, instantly switch to it.
Blue and yellow = attachable/detachable extensions for tractors and trucks like tippers, wagons, field work tools, bale tools, etc. When tapped, shows the available information on the right.

Worried about Cross Traffic, or is that slow poke in the way? Honk! Cars on the road will pull over if you're close enough to them or if they're coming towards you when you honk. This then provides you a collision free crossing, or easier passing. Please note those going away from you require you to considerably closer to them before they'll pull over.

On the honking in a Harvester (LOVE that btw so thanks!!) but semi-rigs must already have the right crop in their trailer before they will respond to honks. It's possibly a bug, but good to know either way.

Re: FS16 Tips and Tricks: Fill up vehicles, automated.

Post by hasab »

How to fill up the vehicles automatically?

Instead of driving the vehicles manually either to the gas stations or the seed/water fill up points or the cleaning station, you can order the autohelper to drive there, fill it up and go back to its origin.

Refuel:
Select a vehicle, open the big map (top of screen, second button from right), at the bottom of the map there are four different buttons: drive to, refill, refuel, and wash.
Tap on the petrol icon (second from the right) and the selected vehicle will go to the nearest petrol station, top up the fuel, then comes back.

Refill sowing machine/water sprayer:
Select a vehicle with the sowing machine or the water sprayer attached, open the big map (top of screen, second button from right), at the bottom of the map there are four different buttons: drive to, refill, refuel, and wash.
Tap on the refill icon (second from the left) and the selected vehicle will go to the nearest fill up point, refill the attachment, then comes back.

Hint 1: Always have some money on your account when you use these functions because the autohelper and the refueling/refilling costs money. If you run out of money, the vehicles wont refill and wont come back.

Hint 2: Sometimes these vehicles can get stuck at the gas station or at the fill up points, so watch them from time to time.

Re: FS16 Tips and Tricks: Vehicle order

Post by hasab »

The vehicle order in Farming Simulator is based on purchase time (leastwise at this time), so after you bought the vehicles you can't change the order of them, therefore it is very important to buy the vehicles in the right order (if you can).

For example the suggested optimal vehicle sequence for cultivating crops is the following: Harvester, tractor (attached with tipper), tractor (attached with plow), tractor (attached with sprayer/manure spreader/slurry tank), tractor (attached with sowing machine).

With this sequence the needed tools just come in the right order when you tap the next tractor icon so after you start the harvester in autohelper mode just tap on the next vehicle icon and you are in the tractor with the tipper so you can go to empty the harverster's container, then tap next and you can start plowing the harvested part of the field (with autohelper), then tap next and start spraying the plowed field with autohelper (it is better to spray the field first then sow it because the sprayer moves much faster then the sower), then tap next and you can start sowing with autohelper, then tap next and you are in the harvester again which is likely at the end of the field so you can move on to the next harvestable field and continue the work like this.

At forestry the optimal vehicle sequence is the following: ScorpionKing tree cutter, Buffalo log transporter, tractor attached with the stump cutter, and so on.
So first cut the trees with the ScorpionKing then gather the logs with the Buffalo then cut out the stumps to let new trees grow.

Hint: There are two reasons why it's not advisable to cut the stumps right after cutting the trees: 1) The newly grown saplings will obstruct the way of the Buffalo aggravating the log gathering, 2) The new trees wont be grown up in the same time. So it's better to cut and gather all the logs first and then cut all the stumps out.

Mowing Grass: this could be a bug, but till said otherwise, it's an interesting"feature" worth pointing out.

If you skip collecting grass, the next mowing will add the new clippings to the old. The loader wagon will then collect twice as fast. This perhaps isn't as handy as it might seem because each grass field is so fine tuned(ie it fills a small loader and large loader is too big to automate). However it also means if you're sloppy collecting grass, that you'll get a second chance later.

A couple things to add to the last post and more. Windrowing will destroy excess grass, so unless you've cleared the field of all excess, don't windrow it. There also seems to be no limit on the stacking, but might be I've never let a field accumulate that much.

All that said, be aware the game only allows a limited amount of uncollected bales(unsure if collected on a trailer counts). I don't have the precise amount, but it seemed 40+ likely. So if you do use the multiple mowings to stack grass, be sure you don't bale it then forget or you may end up with far less bales.

Re: FS16 Tips and Tricks: Remove trees out of the way

Post by hasab »

If there are trees in the way of the vehicles using the autohelper on the fields or for other reason, you can cut those trees down with the Scorpion King, then gather and transport the logs to one of the selling points with the Buffalo or just leave it there and push them out of the way, but DO NOT grind the stumps. If you leave the stumps in place, they wont act as a barrier. But if you grind the stumps, the trees will grow back up there.

Re: FS16 Tips and Tricks: Fast hauling

Post by hasab »

The Lizard pickup truck is very fast with its 70 kph/45 mph speed, and you can use it for hauling almost everything like milk, wool, loading wagon with hay or straw, tipper full of fruit, low-loader using a dolly; or for transporting tractor-attachments or harvester-headers from here to there.
It's worth buying one or two of the Lizard pickup truck.

The milk and wool trailers as many likely know, fill when a tractor or lizard pickup is attached and parked in their correct loading point. However, you do not need to be present for it to fill. This means if you have enough tractors and/or pickups to use, you can leave one permanently attached. The biggest benefit is taking advantage that you now have the trailer capacity and the barn capacity before you run out of space and production stops.

Navan, I thought I noticed that the trailer does not fill up until you change the focus to that tractor. Still a good thing to increase capacity, but you have to get in the tractor to start it up occasionally to get it to take on product.

Odd, it's always works for me. So long as i have a truck hooked up to the trailer it autoloads. Perhaps this is only something the Lizard can do.
