Hello,
our Discord server (https://discord.gg/giantssoftware) has been running for a little over a year now and is very popular. So we decided to clean up and modernize the server. This post should inform you about the changes to the discord.
First of all for all those who don't know what Discord is:
Discord is a kind of chat software/teamspeak combination. In different channels you can exchange information with other players of the community and of course you can reach us from GIANTS Software (at least once in a while). Discord has established itself as software for interest groups over the last few years and enjoys considerable popularity. The GIANTS Software Discord currently welcomes over 5600 users.
If you are not a Discord user yet, have a look around.
The coming changes:
Up to now, the channels were quite confusing and you were in all channels at the same time whether you needed or wanted them. The players were also grouped by their hardware (PC user / XBOX user / PS4 user etc.). That was OK during the test phase, but now that we want to integrate Discord even more firmly into our communication, we will change something.
What's changing:
Each user (old and new) will initially only see a single channel in which there are a few questions to answer.
The first question: Which region do you belong to?
This will be the new server sort. EU/NA/Other Each user can only select one of these groups. As soon as this selection is made, the discord opens and the channels become visible. Canadian users: You are part of NA, don't get confused by the US flag, I couldn't find a better one.
You get a "team channel" where only people who have joined the same region are in. These teams will become even more important in the future, so keep an eye out.
You will also get the usual lobby (all Discord users no matter what role they have chosen they see) and the announcement channel for our news.
The second question: Which language do you want to see?
Here you can put together your language channels individually. You can choose from English, German, French, Dutch, Polish and Spanish.
You can choose as many languages as you want and then you will see the channels of the respective languages. Please make sure that the respective language is spoken in these channels.
After that you can choose if you want to see the voice channels, many users don't use the platform as a Teamspeak replacement and wished to be able to hide it. Now you can.
Last but not least you can choose if you want to join the modder channels. There modders exchange information about modding (in English)
So you see, the whole thing is much more organized and hopefully also clearer. The changes should be implemented in the next few hours, so if you suddenly miss all channels, you know why.
Cheers
Lis

Thanks for the server update and detailed information Lisertan.
I have just one question.
Does EU stand for Europe or European Union?
I live in Turkey and we are not a EU member but in most geographical legends we are classified under Europe region.
So, which one do you think is suitable for me?

EU stands for Europe. It is generally about that whole timezone block.

Re: [Info] Discord - the upcoming changes
Are there any plans to add more moderators - specifically, more North America-based moderators? There have been times where moderation was needed and there were none online, due to it being the middle of the night in European time zones.
I would agree that it would be good to have a LFG channel that people could use for grouping up (either a category with channels for each platform, or roles for each platform). Just a suggestion, overall the changes seem great!

We were thinking about a LFG channel, but so far not much LFGing was going on. We might add some and see where this goes soon.
