[SOLVED] Making cuttable tree

Post by Pyrol »

Hi modders,
I'm making a tree which can be cuttable with chainsaw but I've few problems. I've been looking for tips for this but there isn't enough documentation about it and I couldn't find anything on websites (even in this section).

I made A simple tree which has trunk (It's made with cylinder and just extruded to up, I can cut it) and branches set as a attachments.
But if I export it to my map I can't "cut" branches like it is in orignal spruce. Branches will disappear after I'll cut trunk. I can't cun just branches.

Other example: I want to make tree like this:

I has trunk and extruded secondary branches which I could cut, but there is another problem. I can cut above specyfied level (this photo and video will show you exacly what I mean):

Btw. I make model in Blender then I export it to .fbx and export by maya

For any helpful information I'll be very grateful.
Regards,
Pyrol.

I don't recall the details, but given your description the words "splitshapes (trees) need to have convex hulls" come to my mind.

What you mean by "convex hulls"?

It is a mathematical concept of a space built from a given set of points, including all "connection lines" between any two of those points: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convex_hull and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convex_set

OK, few conversations I made it \o\
Few tips :

I used blender to generate trees with plugin so:

Main trunk has to haven't have any hole.

To make branch as a attachment you can't name it "attachments" in maya - name it branch1, branch2 etc. maya will "merge" it while exporting.

(I wached a tutorial and there was to set Z-up) It's wrong to make trees you have to use Y-up!! (otherwise you'll be able to cut ONLY from about halt tree to up).

While creating branches and merging it with leaves (in blender) you have to delete second UV: https://i.imgur.com/EDoVDwM.png
also there have to be ONLY one texture/material. Exacly: objects (CHILDS) UNDER LOD0 has to have ONLY one texture https://i.imgur.com/ZZOftq0.png for example: https://i.imgur.com/4R613A6.png

Pivot point of evry branch have to be at "start growth of branch" (look yellow "dots"): https://i.imgur.com/uWxtQvw.png

In attributes tab you have to set options next select object/objects and click "Apply Selected" (I've low res monitor and I don't saw this xx).

And there is timelapse of creating a tree (but I set resolution to HD and it cropped some screen ;( )
