Fuel usage isn't affected by speeding up time.

Since nobody actually answered your question, it's likely that nobody has tried. Try it yourself and let us know. I don't use the idle feature, but I'd be interested to know if fuel is consumed when you're not in a vehicle.
Start your tractor, check the fuel, get out, go make a sandwich, get back in your tractor, and check to see if the fuel went down.

I'm pretty sure fuel usage is tied to real time only. If you started a vehicle and stayed close enough for it to continue running and let it set for 8 hours or so, it'll run out.

Is fuel usage simply based upon time or also engine load? I have several tractors with many hours on them with a decent amount of fuel still in the tank from when the dealer filled it up for me when we purchased the tractor.

I think it depends what it is doing. I've seen posts before saying a baker or the jenz chipper were hard on diesel.

Have Run Across a couple of times setting up a fuel gauge in a mod and need to check its accuracy I turned fuel usage way up in the xml file and drove to fuel station drove back and forth in front of the fuel pump to run it out to do my test and after test was complete turned it back down in xml just saying thats one way to do it

I beleive fuel consumption is related to the work the vehicle is doing and the hours it has. If you have a tractor just for carting, it seems to hardly use as much fuel as if you had a tractor strictly for sowing.

Case tractors show fuel usage on their in cab screens and it works real time. If we think that it is calculable data for the game engine than the OP's theory should be right and the vehicle should run out of fuel in game time. It is read in L/hrs on the screen and quadtrack has a fuel consumption of 5,3L/hrs even sitting in idle. When you go on full throtlle it jumps to 238L/hrs. That is on low fuel usage set in the game menu.

You should see the big bud 747 on full throttle. Consumes 1 liters per a couple of seconds. You can just watch the fuel decreasing.
