Crop Rotation

Post by RODHA »

If I don't do crop rotation on a field and keep sowing the same crop, do I get lower yields? :hmm: :confusednew:

I have never noticed a reduction in yield. However I have noticed that if I keep planting and harvesting the same crop, the market price does not get as high.

No, the yield will always be the same.

I usually don't rotate mine, I have a notepad I use to write down each fields number and then what I wish to plant there. I'll also write down if a field needs fertilized or not.

I just plant corn and beans and I like to rotate the crops in my fields.

For the crops in the game, what is a realistic crop rotation?

I always rotate, I try to divide my total fields into 3 sections. Whatever needs to be ploughed gets corn or sunflowers as it needs cultivation beforehand. Other fields I use direct drills.

I use a 3-4 crop rotation on all my fields so I have to keep notes on all my fields.

I wish...

Nah, I plant what I want to. Big fields usually get the low-yielding crops like soybeans, sunflower, or canola. The smaller fields get wheat, barley, and corn. I'm not much of a root crop farmer, but I always say I might sometime. But I do like to do somewhat of a rotation so I'm not doing the exact same thing every time.

I do rotations, but only for the purpose of having a variety of crops in storage to prevent flooding the market, since with seasons there are only certain times during the year where crops can be sold for good money.

Yield is dependent on the amount of fertilizer you apply. However if you want to be partially realistic, don't put corn on the same field twice in a row. Personally I try to predict which crop will have a high price at harvest and put that one on my largest field and follow the formula for all my fields.

I rotate crops myself for realism and to have a good amount of different crops in the silo

Did you test or tried it with that purpose?

This is tested from several people, and I can also confirm this after around 500 hours of play. The below was tested for example on the goldcrest valley, field 24. 3x fertilized and plowed.
