loan to solar panels
I never did the math but will it pay off in interest to borrow a loan to buy solar panels?

Not really...60 odd game days just to pay for itself!

Re: loan to solar panels
It does take a long time for a solar panel to pay for itself as Patrick says but yes it would likely cover interest and start offsetting its cost from day 1. How long it would take to return profit depends on whether you play with seasons and whether you are on easy/normal/hard. I prefer putting the loan into cows as the milk sales give a good level of ROI. Sheep are less work and require less equipment but in my games I've found the wool price to be very volatile thus the income is less reliable than cows.

I’ve never thought loans for animals I am just away to finish forestry in the next week or two RL and wanting to get into silage for summers and stuff! Might get sheep or pigs for a little extra income!

Dairy even at small levels is a great investment. You get milk sales and manure which you can start putting down greenhouses. Selling silage at the bio gas compliments dairy equipment. Besides the main grass days I find dairy very time efficient.

Dairy is good to get into with seasons I made 150,000 in spring alone from milk sales with 122 cows. Probably see next spring nearly 200,000 with 134.

If we are talking about loans and ROI I just found that logging has a great ROI, as long as you can take out a loan for about 45K you can grab a FHL 13 AK and a scorpion king. If you can use a train a full load can give over 100K. If you cut 5m lengths you can double stack each car.

Yeah, logging & silage bales have great ROI and can be a great use of the loan however they are very active endeavours so you spend a lot of time grinding quite monotonous tasks to get the payoff.
Re: loan to solar panels
I never liked the loading with the FHL 13 ak. I can load much faster with just a tractor and log grapple. That and a dolley/semi log trailer is dirt cheap. Trick is to position trailer and drop the trees in a organized manner. That and turn off stop and go.

^^Ya the only reason I use the AK is because I can load it with a skid steer
Someone please make a logging trailer with shorter stakes
