Steering sensitivity

Post by Guil »

I could be missing something obvious but is there a way to slow down the steering? I'm on PC using a Xbox one controller.

Sometimes I notice the camera continues to pan very slowly if I move it slightly too so I presume I can increase the dead one for that stick?

Unfortunately that's just for setting the key bindings by the looks of it.

There should be a deadzone setting in the controller settings (in game). I know I've played with those settings some

Give the following mod a try (despite its name it also works with wheels and gamepads: http://www.farming-simulator.com/mod.ph ... tle=fs2017

Yes, by slightly increasing the deadzone for the axis you should be able to get rid of this.

Exactly what do you mean by "slow down" ... just move your thumb slower and the steering will be slower !? ... :)

Next to the dead zone settings there is sensitivity settings for the sticks ... are you running it at 100% or higher ?

XB1 or XB1 Elite controller?
XB1 Elite controller can also be adjusted with its dedicated software.

I have my dead zone at 10% with my Xb1 Elite controller ... to avoid any drifting ... but I only use it for "on foot" stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had keyboard steer before but must have deleted it. I have a rock candy Xbox one controller and it's very sensitive in fs17. I've looked at the settings but I dunno what axis is what so not sure what to change.

You should be able to open the controller properties in Windows and go to the calibration/test function (I forget how exactly it is labeled in Windows 10) to figure out the axis labels, as well as button numbers/labels. That said, though, I expect steering is probably the X axis.

I could be wrong, but I think there is a place in the setting that allows you to adjust steering sensitivity. I believe it may be under advanced settings.

Sometimes the make of controller can be overly sensitive. My xbo gamepad has extensions on the thumb sticks to slow it down a lot more than you can with just the settings.

Take a look in your controls menu ...
Find the lines for steer right / left to find out what axis to change.

Image

Set the sensitivity to 100% (this is the lowest you can set it to).
Image

I think these settings are linear so a setting below 100% would probably result in not being able to use the full range of the axis.
But you could try to go in to the inputbinding.xml and test what happens if you set a manual value below "1.000000".
Try 0.500000 or 0.250000 to start with ... this would make it possible for you to see if you lost the "full steering range".

Code: Select all

  <device name="XINPUT_GAMEPAD" id="0_XINPUT_GAMEPAD">
            <attributes axis="0" deadzone="0.100000" sensitivity="1.500000"/>
            <attributes axis="1" deadzone="0.100000" sensitivity="1.500000"/>
            <attributes axis="2" deadzone="0.100000" sensitivity="1.500000"/>
            <attributes axis="3" deadzone="0.100000" sensitivity="1.500000"/>
            <attributes axis="4" deadzone="0.100000" sensitivity="1.500000"/>
            <attributes axis="5" deadzone="0.100000" sensitivity="1.500000"/>
Make sure to create a copy of this file before making any tests though.
Because if you do something that the game "cant handle/recognize" it will create a new file with the default settings and any previous changes you made will be lost!

I had the same problem and after much trying and failing I got my self an Xbox one elite controller. Where you can program different sensitivity to the sticks. And switch between the settings by a flick of a button. So I have one setting for when I drive in the yard or on the field, and one setting for when I drive at higher speeds on the road when I want the sticks to be less sensitive!

What Azfoor said.

And also, I think the "Elite" version is more accurate (possibly "higher resolution") for the axis compared to the regular one, out of the box.
