Since the game itself doesn‘t support the functionality which such a lever is used for, which is called ‚shuttle control‘ by the way, you will need to install a mod to add such a functionality: https://www.modhoster.com/mods/drivecontrol--2

Afterwards you can use any USB controller for this.

I play on pc and use a Logitech Driving Force GT plus the mod Drive Control. There I use the gearshifter for forward and back.
