map SIZE

Post by CMDRTAKEDOWN »

Funny how people are confused when talking about map size. You take the normal map and add it to another. Not just add km's.
Normal Map (2km's,2km's)
2X Map (4km,2km) 2 maps side by side
4X Map (8km's,8km) 2map's across and 2map's down
8X map (16km's,16km's) 4map's across and 4 map's down
16X map (32km's, 32km's) 8 map's across and 8map's down.

I got my hopes up when Mapper's Paradise said that Welker Farm's was going to be a 2X map but as you know it's just a standard size. But I knew that it's not their fault just that everyone getting confused by the term's.

But your 4x calculation is wrong. It would be 4km x 4km.

Actually the standard in the community is to take the map size (area), not the edge length.
So 1x is the default size (2x2km). 4x is 4x4km (2x edge length = 4x the size of the default map) and 16x is 8x8km (4x the edge length = 16x the size of the default map).
The next size would be 64x (16x16km), but seeing that would require several GB of memory just for a plain, empty terrain, I think there's no computer that could currently handle that size.

Also: the map has to be square, so your 2x is not possible.

Damn was hoping that 2x was possible then maybe could come to consoles. Since that 4x is not going to happen.
