New to multiplayer need help

Hey I'm new to multiplayer and was just wondering when I want to access my game is it saved in the career section or do I open it by going into multiplayer and hitting join game. Asking this because I set up a game for myself and my friend and when I saved it, it was saved in career. And when I opened the map again it didn't have the general server settings in the game. My friend is yet to join so just trying to get the map set up first. Thanks
