Nope. Infact when I was using the NLD Starter map to convert an FS15 map that was one of the last things I changed. No problem at all.

I changed my map name so yes it's ok, you can do it. But I can't fully remember what I did - I think it was this -
***(obviously back it all up first just in case anything goes wrong).!!!!
1) Change your map i3d name to whatever you want:
NLDFarmers_Start_Map.i3d
to
NewName.i3d.
2) In the map01.xml, change the line
<filename>maps/NLDFarmers_Start_map.i3d</filename>
to
<filename>maps/NewName.i3d</filename>
3) open newname.i3d in GE.
4) In GE, create a new ground collision map (scripts/FS17/map/create ground collision map)
5) save
6) After saving you should see a NewName.i3d.Shapes file appear in your map folder, as well as the NewName.i3d.colMap.GRLE file, so now you can delete the old colmap.grle and shapes file.
7) Now you just need to change the name wherever you need to in modDesc.xml (plus rename preview icons if necessary)
