Buffalo log grapple and all else.

Post by elvik »

Is there any way to make the log grapple in the game stronger?

I think everyone who used the Buffalo or the tractor trailer with crane and every mod that has a log grapple can all relate to it's weaknesses that occur when using them.

i know it's just a game and will never reflect on real life, but if you grab a log or two in real life with a crane it's not going to fall out a closed claw (Lol it realy never closes tough) or start moving like its alive, and the grapples are deisgned to push up so the wood goes as far up in the grapple as possible to ensure it's closed in the bottom (if you dont grab to much ofc)
Using the Fuchs MHL 350 mod (big grapple) and it's just sad how weak it is and it never closes and realy holds on to the logs

Take this image for example, in the game if you try to pick up like that they would fly off to another universe, Or just be 3 wide and drop out of the grip when you get close to placing them on the buffalo.

PS: Off-Topic
Is it my computer that is to weak or is the game realy lagging if you start making piles of cut woods like this (small piles even) Image

as to your first statement/request.. I may be wrong but I think that has more to do with the physics behind the logs than the strength of the grapple.. until giants updates the physics engine there may not be much hope other than using something with a locking script.. to the second part.. I mean.. it does have to do directly with the capabilities of your pc.. the stronger your pc in terms of cpu and gpu the bigger your pile could be before u start to see problems.. it also has to do with an unoptimized game engine.. the game engine combined with a less than stellar computer and u have fps loss with anything from large amounts of equipment/logs/bales/pallets/etc.. u think its bad on pc.. try it on console sometime lol.. when I logged with my xbox I would never have more than a trailer or so laid out at a time or I would start getting lag

The Problem is the Tree scale from the game.
U know the Trees have a Diameter over 60cm Ingame. Thats very big, in Reallife can a Buffalo handle (with this Grapple) 1 Timber from this size. But Ingame look this Timber very Small however in Reallife is much bigger.
Thats why i make my own Trees with a Realistic Tree size. ->

Boy thats for sure.I don't care much for logging..but really don't like dealing with the physics of the game engine.flying wood, wood that has magnetic properties. grapple won't hold well.trees way bigger then they should be..scale is wrong on many things...but still love it..even with its issues..we can hope Giant is working on a new game engine for fs19......Chris

Do you know any map that is using your modded trees as standard? fells a little weird to sit and place trees all around the map and get a mix of standard trees and modded trees.
