Top speed reduced when going through crops and grass

I've been working on a map, and everything's going fine, but just noticed that as soon as I drive off ashphalt, the JCB drops from 45 to 26 - not suddenly, but as if due to friction.. I don't think I've noticed this on any other map - top speed seems unaffected on other maps like goldcrest..

Am I going mad, or is there a setting somewhere to adjust the terrain friction or something?
