FS19 - Creating Store Icons for Mods

FS19 - Creating Store Icons for Mods

We are happy to announce that we are going to release our internal tool to create store icons also for modders. This tool is still a beta version, so may not work perfectly. If any bug appears, please let me know by a message here in the forum with a detailed description of the bug.

Needed Programs:
  • GIANTS Editor (min. Version 8.1.0)
  • Farming-Simulator (min. Version 1.3.0)
  • FS Icon Generator (Download, Version 0.1.3)

Instructions:
  1. Make sure you got an up to date installation of the GIANTS Editor and the game.
  2. The mod you want to use has to be as unzipped folder in the mods folder.
  3. Start the FS Icon Generator
  4. In the upper part of the window you can see the paths to the game, editor and mods folder. These should be automatically detected. If not and the fields are marked red, you can use the folder icon beside the fields and select your path to the missing folder.

  5. In the middle part of the window all found mods will be listed. Just select the mod you want to use.

  6. In case the mod got multiple configuration options, now a window appear where you can select if you want to generate a custom configuration.

  7. If you pressed "yes" than you can now select the configuration you wish to generate. After that, press "Ok".

  8. If you want to generate multiple icons, just select as many mods as you wish.
  9. After you are done with the selection press the "Generate" button.
  10. Now the GIANTS Editor opens, generates the icon(s) and closes again.
  11. Now the new icon should be in the folder of the mods. If the shadow of the icon is not correctly displayed on the icons you can activate the "Automatic Height" setting or set the XML attribute "shopTranslationOffset", so the vehicle is placed at the correct height.

Available Settings:

  • Mode: Selection between Store Icons and 360 Degrees Icons
  • Render Resolution: In this resolution the icon will be rendered.
  • Final Resolution: This is the final resolution for the icon
  • Output Format: Selection between PNG and JPG. (Only for 360 Degrees Icons)
  • Output Quality: Quality for the JPG icons.
  • Background Color: Background color for JPG icons.
  • Debug Load: After the generation the GIANTS Editor will not be closed. So you can see how the mods is placed for the generation and may adjust the xml or i3d file.
  • Filename: Filename for icons.
  • Custom Save Directory: If it is activated the icon will be saved there.
  • Camera Y Rotation: Y rotation for the camera
  • Camera X Rotation: X rotation for the camera
  • Automatic Height: The vehicle will be automatically placed so the lowest point of the vehicle is at the 0 height. Can be activated if the shadow of the vehicle is not correctly placed.
  • Advanced Bounding Box: To place the vehicle on the icon all shapes will be included, otherwise just all collisions are used for the calculation. Can be used if the vehicle is cut off the icon.
  • Log File: Please send the content if you report a bug.
  • Reset Settings: Resets all settings.

the program can not fit on the desktop and does not create shadow under vehicles.

Alright I gave it a try..

First I had issues with it even loading up.. perhaps caused by the reason because my bulk files are located on a different drive.
Moved it to my C: drive where FS and the Editor are installed and it seems to run.

Got a nice list of all the mods BUT it won't let me generate any icons. It hangs after clicking the generate button.
Maybe I am impatient.

So for example what I did:
- Downloaded the holmer pack
- Opened the tool and selected the Terra Variant 435
- Let the configurations as they are
- Clicked generate
- Tool hangs.

This happened for every mod I have in my folder.

Update: It seems like the tool does not like to generate icons back-to-back for different vehicles. I have to restart in order to make it work for 1 vehicle. After that vehicle is finished I can't generated another one for a different vehicle.

@Mlody98: On which resolution are you trying it? For the shadows the vehicle has to be placed correctly in the i3d. If this is not the case you can try it with the "Automatic Height" setting, as written above.

@Wopster: What kind of issues did you have at the start? If the Game and Editor are not installed in the default directories you have to define them manually.

According to your log file the icons were saved in "C:/fsIconGenerator". This happens if you got the Custom Save Directory activated.

Well, it's hard to setup the directories when the tool does not want to start at all. :biggrin2: But thats solved.. like i said with moving it to a different drive, not sure what happened there.

Yup, I had to enable the custom directory else the generated icons didn't show up in the mod directory. But that probably also had to do with the fact that it couldn't handle multiple vehicles in a row. Cause the main problem I had is that the tool hangs after you created an icon for one vehicle and you want to create another one for a different vehicle.

To reproduce:
- Select vehicle X
- Click generate
- Icon generated
- Unselect vehicle X and select vehicle Y
- Click generate
- Tool hangs

MAurUS: Problem solved, The reason was low level in Giants Editor

The tool hangs whatever I do but it creates store icon.

@TurboStar: This happens if the „Debug Load“ Option is checked. Then the Icon Generator waits until the Editor in the background is closed.

I‘ll see to fix this issue tomorrow.

The best way I could describe it is "sometimes". It works quite well, makes far more beautiful store images then I have ever been able to. But that's "if" it works, one moment it was fine and then the next it was throwing some errors a me "KeyError: 'name'". This has great potential, and I'd really like to see it go somewhere, but as of now it's got a fair bit of work. Good luck! :smileynew:

I am having problems getting this file to work, whenever i try and generate a icon the program loads giants editor then just hangs, i have tried all different options, please help

@Farming Girl: The Problem is the "Getting Started" Window. Please start the editor in it's own and uncheck the "Show this on startup" option. Then it should work.

This will be fixed automatically with the next version.

Thanks so much, that fixed it however as you can see i now have the issue that my item is tiny, i've tried to move it in giants editor, but it always is the same, how can i change this please

Im not saying that its not working, all im saying is that for me the picture of the mod on the icon is tiny, which is probably due to my mod being tiny, and was asking how i can make it bigger, because i cant work out how, the original problem was fixed because i still had the welcome screen enabled on giants editor!

I always thought forums where places to ask for help, correct me if im wrong!
