AutoDrive fails - vehicle ignoring routs

When I set my destination to the shop, and activate AutoDrive, the vehicle turns away from the nearest route, and proceeds to drive off the road, across a field, and moving away from the selected destination. I have no idea where the vehicle was going, but I ended up deactivating AutoDrive and manually driving to the shop instead. I entered edit mode and checked the routes, there were there.

I have no idea whats going on, but that is the complete opposite behavior from what the description claims.
