Importing current shapes.

I already know the basics of importing shapes which means you will have that particular shape file in your mod directory. What I would like to know is how to use the current shape that is located in "data/shared/assets" without having the shape file in your mod directory? Can this be done via Giants Editor? Some mods appear to use this method.


Edit: In this case, I am making changes to the in game tractors. If I wanted to add the "starfire" asset, I know I can import this item as a shape, but the "i3d" file will have to be in the mod directory.
