UV layout question

Hi

Recently got back into modding, currently making a rather complex vehicle yet struggling to lay out the uv's to the accuracy that many GIANTS original mods are. I've mapped all the objects, just can't pack them in as efficiently as the originals.

If anyone has any tips, tricks or scripts to aid the process I'd be glad of the help. Trying to pack uv's so efficiently while keeping the scale the same manually is just about impossible and the Maya 'UV Layout tool' is very inefficient on space.

Additional info, I'm using Maya 2017
