Can't switch nor save contoller if other means are also plugged in

Post by thybountyhunter »

So I am playing with a Racing wheel, pedals and mouse, I also have connected to my computer an Xbox controller, as well as a HOTAS for my flying games.

I sometimes would like to sit back and relax and just found out that if I try to save my Xbox controller it won't do it, it still defaults to the Racing wheel, if I disconnect that then it defaults to the HOTAS and then I need to disconnect that to get it to save the gamepad so I can use the Xbox controller.

This is not correct, I shouldn't have to unconnect two other controllers (one of which I cannot fathom using in this game) just to use one controller.

Is this a bug or by design, is there anyway around this so I can have all that I need connected and be able to use what I feel like.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I am not sure that I understand what your issue is.

FYI ... I have the following connected.

Logitech G920 + gear shifter
Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS joystick
XB1 Elite
Thrustmaster MFD Cougar
BBI-32
Arduino Leonardo (acts as a keyboard)

All of them are mapped and used for something within the game.

... no issues!

Thanks for the reply, I don't know if i can clarify the issue but will try.

In order I have:

Thrustmaster Ferrari Racing Wheel Red Legend Edition
Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X
Xbox controller

Now I play with the Wheel and in the Options Screen labeled controls 2 it is listed as FGT Rumble 3-in-1 and it is the default.

I can scroll through and see T-Flight Hotas 4 and Xinput_Gamepad pad as well. However if I select either of those and go back after I saved it to either of them, it defaults back to the wheel. It does not save the controller that I selected.

Also I cannot just pick up any controller and play with it, at whim. I have to unplug other controllers and ensure the one I want is set in the options and then it will save that controller.

Do you have the latest patch to version 1.5.3.1 installed: http://www.farming-simulator.com/update ... country=us

If you are still using veraion 1.5.3.0 then this is most likely the cause for yor issue, because that version had a bug with the way the cobtrollers are indexed by the game which is fixed with version 1.5.3.1.

I am running through steam and have the latest but did check and I am running version number 1.5.3.1 (15681/19945)

Edit: if it was a bug then it could be that it is not fully fixed, atm.

Are you trying to "select a controller" to play with as your default controller?
I never did that ... I use them all for different things!

I just opened the controller menu and started mapping keys away ... no need to disconnect anything!

Sometimes I noticed that Win10 does not detect my Thrustmaster "throttle" and I have to pull the cable for it.
This happens with other games also so I can not blame GIANTS for this.

It seems as if the game stores all the keybindings for all of my controllers in the same file.
So I would say that it is important to have all of them connected when binding the keys/buttons.
If one of them is missing while trying to configure another one, the data from the missing one might be deleted and you would have to redo that one the next time.

At the location where you find your mod folder you can also find a file called inputBinding.xml.
Have a look in that one and you might get a better understanding for what is going on.

There is a section in that document that looks like this "spoiler" where you should be able to find all of your controllers that has functions mapped to any of its buttons.

Before I figured out how to get my wheel to work I could just pick up my Xbox controller and play.

However now that the wheel is mapped and even If I un-map it I cannot just pick up the controller and play with it, I cannot save it to default either as it will save to the wheel. If I unplug he wheel it will then default the Hotas, and only when I unplug that it will let me use the controller and save to it.

With each thing plugged in the key binds are mapped and working and I don't need to change those. It is if I have all 3 plugged in I cannot just pick one at whim and use it.

OK ... not sure why you would want to use a XB controller for steering if you have a wheel and pedals?
I have my controllers mapped for the most suitable task in the game.
When ever "on foot" I have these controls mapped on my XB1 controller.
Steering is of course mapped to the wheel and pedals ... and front loaders and such is mapped to the joystick ... etc ...

What you are describing is a short coming in the controls menu for this game as it only has one column for "gamepad" ...
It is not possible to map the same function for two different controllers (sadly).
Say you would want to assign "forward" (gas pedal) to both your xbox controller and your pedals.
You can not do this ... :neutralnew:

But again ... you might be going about it the wrong way.

It might be that your XB1 controller is causing a hardware conflict between controllers. I had a problem with my Logitech G29 and my thrustmaster stuff which led me to giving a dedicated USB port to my G29.
You don't have to be a farmer to be outstanding in your field. But it helps.
