Controller issues

So I bought a pc controller online, my computer finds it and everything, it calls it xbox 360 controller for windows. Bu t when I go to play it does nothing. I tried my ps4 controller, going through a bunch to mask it as a xbox controller, still nothing. How do I get the pc controller to work?

I think you forgot to tell your game that you are using a controller, (: go to the settings and check if there is a possibility to select the controller / keyboard? just a suggestion, (:
