I'd say quoting is only useful in a few situations in a forum. Usually you're replying to the previous 1-2 posts, so it is clear for all readers in which context your post is.
Discussing multiple topics in a thread should be avoided anyway and a separate thread should be created. There are a few exceptions, though, like Feedback threads which tend to have many different independent posts.
If there are a few questions from different people in the last 2-3 posts that I want to answer to, I also tend to post something like "<Name>, my answer", which makes it clear to which user I'm replying. Also I try to kind of include the answer in my answer so that the context is clear for everyone.
E.g. if the question from UserX is "How can I open the game?", I write "UserX, you can open the game by double clicking the icon", instead of just "Double click the icon".

So basically my personal rules regarding quotes:
1. Try to avoid quotes if possible (basically never quote if I answer to a post that is 1-2 posts before mine)
2. Formulate the answers so that they contain the context as much as possible, possibly including the name of the user that I'm referring to.
3. If I really need to quote, remove all irrelevant paragraphs (and images). But never change partial sentences. Just remove whole paragraphs (if the meaning does not change)

Why did they sticky this thread, but they won't sticky any other threads? Probably because GIANTS responded. Not to offend you at all @W1der. :)

Johndeere, I'm not having a go but I think you should read stegei's suggestion again. You like that quote button and a lot of the time you quote the post directly before yours and it ends up a massive wall of text repeated 3-4 times on the same page. Just a friendly observation.

I have an idea, on Rigs of Rods sim game i played, we had this button under the forum members name, its called a Thanks button, you know on Facebook when you like someones post? Its like that, but at the same time, its like a help button to, it goes either way, i think it would be cool to have this option on this forum, and Stiegl said he does UserX deal, ive noticed that alot of times, ive also seen people reword post to.
