Happy Birthday to me!

Post by dunnjob »

So, I turned 40 on Sunday and I have been planning my birthday present for over a year. After lots of work, scraping, paying things off early, I was able to buy myself a very nice birthday present this year.

Its fast, its loud, its a heckuva lot of fun.

Mine has a top on it, a winch, and power steering. Definitely do not have any buyers remorse for this thing (even if it may take me 4 years to pay for it, LOL).

Awesome +1.

I'm more of an ATV guy than a SXS, but I bet that thing's fun to throw around. I've only ever driven an old Polaris Ranger and a Kubota Diesel something (both terribly slow and under-powered). I'd like to take one of those for a spin.

If I'm not mistaken ATV's have a really stiff suspension to handle that much punishment.
How about this one?

Btw, happy birthday and congrats on the purchase *thumbsup*

The suspension on this thing is pretty balanced. Its a nice mix between comfort and performance. The independent suspension is soft enough not to rattle the fillings out of your teeth at low speeds but stiff enough to corner without a great deal of body roll. Its actually a very comfortable machine at any speed.

^^For Real^^ I think those things are cool toys but I would probably just buy an older pickup or a Jeep for that kind of dough. Then you have all of the off-road capabilities of the SxS, plus more towing/hauling capacity, and you can drive it to town. But I still think they're cool little buggies if you've got it to spend.

When I started shopping around for a UTV and got the prices on a few of them, I thought the same thing. But honestly, if I had bought a late model 4x4 and modified it to have the same capabilities I would probably have close to the same money tied up in it.

My daily driver is a Chevy 4x4 pickup, but since I live in a city I do not want my everyday driver to get 10 mpg after I lift it, put bigger tires, locking differentials, etc.

One of my favorite things about SxS and ATV is they fit well into the "tread lightly" philosophy of off-roading. When you aren't hot dogging it, this machine has a very light foot print. This Gator weighs about 1500 lbs (680 kg) with me in it. With large tires and low ground pressure I am able to access the wet areas around the farm without rutting the fields like a tractor or my pickup would do.
