Monitor what to buy??

Post by Zetor9145 »

Hi all,
Not sure where to put this so move it if you need too,

My old Toshiba laptop bought in 2009 (win 10 upgrade) is driving me mad by getting slower and slower, Internet, Typing on forums, Facebook etc etc and so I am thinking about getting a 19"-24" monitor to use with my desktop pc and run a dual monitor set up.
Now my question is: I have a budget of about £120 and have seen a few on Amazon but are there any that you the forum members would recommend, please.

Thank you.

Edit don_apple: moved to 'Off-topic' since this is not related to the game itself.

I would go a television route if it were me. Of course you would have to have the space to put it. I know you're not in the states but I can get a 32" Samsung TV at Walmart for under $150

I'm running my laptop to a 55" Samsung.
Wireless keyboard on my lap, wireless mouse on my coffee table.

My first PC was a Commodore 64. This is a looooong way from that!

You can use a tv, but that does cause congestion with the rest of the family. I recommend a monitor. Unless you buy a gaming monitor, there isn't going to be a huge difference in quality. Just get one at 1080p minimum, as big as you can afford

Buy the family a new TV and you get the old one. Everybody wins! :) I suppose that doesn't fit into the £120 budget though.

Instead of listening to "these guys" ... :coolnew:

Use google and look for "monitor what to buy" or similar and you will find useful information like this.
https://www.cnet.com/topics/monitors/buying-guide/

And why in the name of god is this moved to the off-topic section?
Try playing this game without a monitor ... and with the issues people are having, that is monitor related, I am surprised that this is not being discussed more ... :chinese:

Perhaps I'm being dumb, but what's the difference between a TV and a monitor nowadays, besides a tuner and remote?

It all comes down to what you are going to use it for ...

Well, take this situation as an example. If one wanted a computer monitor, would there be a disadvantage to just using a TV?
You seem to get a bigger screen/better spec for your money compared to a monitor (or did when I was shopping a year and a half ago) compared to a monitor.
Does a monitor do anything that a TV can't?

Thanks, that's very informative.
It occurs to me now that I could have easily googled that. I guess I should add lazy to my earlier post!

I had clean forgotten I had posted this, I ended up picking up a 2nd had Acer 21" monitor for £50.

So I can surf the net on the monitor and play FS17 on the telly. Works quite well apart from losing the curser all the time. lol

Thanks for all your inputs.
