Saw a Challenger 1000

Post by dunnjob »

I saw a brand new Challenger 1000 this past weekend on the Interstate. It was travelling (on the back of a truck) in the opposite direction from me but I got a pretty good look at it. It was massive. It also had some of the widest single tires I have ever seen on a farm tractor in real life.

I wish I had gotten a pic.

I am hoping this tractor makes it into FS19.... * HINT HINT HINT HINT* *PPPPLLLLLEEEEAAASSSE, Giants?*

If I can't see a Fendt 1000 or the new Challengers in FS19, I would be extremely surprised.

It may be down to the time leftover from other things to do more modelling.

The Challengers have become more like fendt`s. The tracked ones are still made in usa. But the wheeled 1000 series is buildt in mannheim Germany. With simplified fendt Controls. They all share the same MAN 12.something liter low rpm engine i think.

Aren't AGCO dropping the challenger name this year and putting Fendt liveries on all of them (in Europe at least)? (the new models I should add)

It is my understanding that the Challenger name will be sold in the North American market, while the same products will be sound in Europe under the Fendt badge.

I may be wrong here.

I’m not sure if this is North American wide but in Ontario, Challenger agro equipment dealers are usually the same dealer as CAT construction. CAT dealers continued to sell Challengers after they sold the brand for some reason. I assume logistics and perception. Works out for both CAT and AGCO.

John Deere actually builts tractors in Mannheim, but the Fendt factory is actually in a town called Marktoberndorf in Bavaria. Which is quite far away from Mannheim, at least for german standards :smileynew:

Yeah that sounds right Don_apple. I was reading about it in Farm Machinery Journal the other day and this jogged my memory. Think it did say in Europe at the start of the article. So we've got reasons to have both brands of tractor in FS19 as there's apparently an American and European map.

I would assume it would be due to bad sales or cannibalizing sales to an extend but yes Challenger is leaving the European market and Fendt is leaving the American market. So in order to keep what market they had happy and to keep brand recognition AGCO is cross branding some of their equipment; the Challenger 1000 series, Fendt 900 and 1100 MT tractors and the Gator line of sprayers. It also wouldn't surprise me if we see some of the Lely acquisition jump to Massey Ferguson or Challenger as well in the future.

^^ Didn't NH just buy Kongskilde and that's why they are doing that?

Just like AGCO owns Lely. Both Kong and Lely still exist as a brand just some implements are having a different label put on it. Example being Kongskilde still makes ploughs, it is a Kongskilde, it will just be painted and say New Holland on it instead of Kongskilde.
