My dad's dream tractor is a 1086, we have a 560 that works great, and the 2+2's are cool lol

If I ever do get into row crops a 2+2 of some sort would be a cool planter tractor. A 1086 would be nice currently other than it would eat all of our hay equipment alive.

There’s no such thing as too much horsepower

It is when the baler is a New Holland 66 and I’ve heard of a 706 working one over, then doubling hp is probably going to eat it...

Short of breaking stuff you’re correct though.

Yea, we put too much horsepower through our New Holland FP240, had 360 horsepower and you couldn't give it all the juice because you would plug the cross auger. Just wasn't built to chop hard. We moved up to a Dion F-41 though, that really *censored* the horsepower out of our tractor haha

Guessing that 360hp mean an 8360R, which means if you got the thing into boost somehow it would be atleast 360hp@pto, and aren’t FP240’s rated somewhere in the 250-300hp PTO range? So my question is how long did it hold in one piece?

Our 8N definitely does tell you, if you attempt to plug the baler it grunts down and nearly stalls...
And it makes raking a pain as you have to have every pass be a separate windrow... the joys of raking, especially as I have never driven the baler so have to guess on what it can take turn wise.

Actually, it's a 8310R with EkoTune, so it's around 360 engine horsepower right now. The PTO horsepower is about 85% of engine (best guesstimate), so that's 305 PTO hp roughly. We also ran an 8235R Ekotuned to about 270 engine. The FP240 didn't quite live up to its rating for us. We were chopping two rows with it. The flaw in any pull-type chopper's design, besides the Dion and a few others, is the cross auger. You just can't push feed through a cross auger like you can the in-line chopping units such as the Dion we moved on to.
