Sound issues with 1.3

Post by W1der »

Is it only me ... or did the sound go from awesome to ... (I do not even know how to explain it).

It is like the volume keeps changing ... and when multiple vehicles is close by ... it is like some one is putting cotton balls in my ears and I am not being able to tell the sounds apart any more ... :confusednew:

The Huerlimann now suddenly sounds like it has engine damage. Agco machines seem to be presented in best daylight, the FS15-sweeties CNH in 2nd best and rest in 3rd. My biggest objection to the game.

Have you restarted your computer since the update?
I just did ... and I think there was a difference ...

Need to do some gameplay, to be sure if this is true or not though ...

Hi :hi:

yes, there have been some changes to the vehicle physics and therefore to the way how sound adjustments are calculated.
That's also the reason why sevorane has changed some xml attributes.

So, if you could tell us what you think is "wrong with the sound" or at least not as good as before, it would really help us to understand how you perceive the sound and what we can do to improve the sounds in future versions of the game.

Thanks!

Only issue i have with sound is the combines.
When you drive next to them in a tractor (3rd person), the combine sound is insanely loud.
but when you drive the combine itself (3rd person) the sound is fine

The first thing I noticed with FS17 was the awesomeness of the engine sound of the vehicles ...
Now ... Something is missing ... and I am trying to "put my finger on it" ...

I do not know what the sound is called but ley me try to describe it ...
The sound that flattens out when the tractor reaches full speed on level ground ... and that comes back when you reach a hill or when accelerating ...
The sensation of "power" when you hear that sound ... being able to hear how the engine is at work ... is "gone".
It was more distinct before ... now I can hardly hear it over the other sound that the engine makes.

I have no possibility to compare to how it was before ... but I noticed the change instantly after the update ...
And the more I play, the harder it is to remember how it used to be ...
But the sensation of being able to tell that the engine is "working" ... is not there any more ... it just sounds "flat".

The sound is sort of "muffled" ...
Also ... the sound of "gravel" seems "overpowered" now ... :confusednew:
(Or maybe it always was but now that I am "listening hard", I can hear it to well over the engine sound!?)

Edit:
It is exactly what I described ... that I am missing. The "pitching sound" that the engines makes when you push the gas pedal is just to "flat" (or something) ... :confusednew:
And also ... It feels as if I have to push the gas a lot harder (pedal to the metal) to even hear it ... (it is still there, but it has changed somehow).

Why did you change this?
(The tractors is still "jumpy" when trying to drive slowly ... accelerating from 1-2 km/h to 5-7 leaving no precision in between.)

It is like the volume keeps changing ... and when multiple vehicles is close by ... it is like some one is putting cotton balls in my ears and I am not being able to tell the sounds apart any more ... :confusednew:
On my main game pc i still run fs17 version 1.2 but on another pc i have 1.3 running now and you are correct the sound is not as good.I had the game running on both pc's so i could compare. Not on the same audio system but that wasn't even an issue the difference in sound is very clear. The starter combine still seems to have the same sound in/out cab/on the ground but both the NH and Case tractors do not.

In/out cab is still the same from what i can hear but it is the sound when you jump out and the worker drives away that is changed. It does not sound like a tractor anymore even when it is passing right in front of me.
EDIT:Just compared the v1.2 and v1.3 sound files of the New Holland 8340 tractor. They are not the same anymore some values have been changed:
Do you agree with my previous post?

I agree with you to some degree,i will explain.I have tested the starter NH tractor on pc running 1.2 and one running 1.3.
I used my headphone this time so no different sound from different speakers. When the tractor is at full speed and on flat ground the exaust sound almost completely disappears and all we hear is the engine sound.I would prefer a bit more exaust sound still in the mix. This is the case with both 1.2 and 1.3 versions.I believe that this is also your main problem with the sound.

What is different in 1.3 over 1.2 is that the tractor sounds like the rpm is lower at full speed than in 1.2.Same for max reverse speed.
Maybe i prefered 1.2 here but it's not that important.I think it's okay for this tractor.
What i think is better under 1.3 is the working sound.(not considering hard/less hard work).
When pulling the starter cultivator at max working speed i can clearly hear that there is more exaust sound and less motor sound.I like that.
It's easy to hear when you can compare. What could be better is difference in sound between just pulling a small cultivator and pulling a big plow.
As it is now there is no difference,no dip in rpm,no louder exaust sound. It's just always the same for every working tool. This is the same for 1.2 and 1.3

Another thing what i would like to see improved if possible is the sound that you hear when the worker is driving the tractor.I set him on his way and i jump out and the exaust sound is almost gone. For these older type tractors there should be more exaust sound i think. The range and fade-out as he drives away is good though.
In fs15 i was used to do the sound myself and i figured it out pretty well but witn fs17 i still have to learn.
My favourite tractor in fs15 is a mbtrac1800 that i changed the sound of.I took the sound of a real mbtrack1800 hauling two full trailers filled to the brim with potatoes. It took me a long time to do but it sounds amazing.A lot of rpm at max speed (just as the real one) and low rpm at low speed. The real tractor had a loud chrome exaust and you can hear the turbo very well.Mine has the same chrome exhaust also :)

I think it's easier to do with a fast tractor like a mbtrack because you have a bigger rpm range to play with.I really don't like tractors that already have a high rpm at low speed, say below 15km/h.More recent tractors usually have less high rpm at full speed even if they are fast like the Deutz for example because they have modern engines that have their max power at much lower rpm. With these tractors it is harder to give them a sound that feels like there is a sense of increased speed.Give them a too high rpm and it sounds unrealistic (thinking about a certain MF tractor mod pack now)
It's a matter of taste also.I might like a tractor with a loud exaust while someone else might not like it at all. However you look at it it is not easy to get right. And then there is another variable, the way the sound is reproduced at the home. This will open up another can of worm but that is for another forum :)

OK ... so ... they changed the RPM settings I guess !?
That is probably why my vehicles seems different, when driving around also (not only me imagining this) ... :smileynew:

I tried a bunch of tractors yesterday ... and the "old style" tractors has a better "sound experience" ...
Probably because they are slower and one has to push the gas pedal harder to get them to gain speed ... :hmm:
The new larger tractors sounds more like a "sowing machine" now ... and if attaching a mower to the Massey tractor ... the only thing one can hear is the mower ...
No "working RPM sound" can be detected at all (using 150USD full size headphones).
And also ... the sound of the "engine brakes" seems to be lowered now ... (The first time I heard this sound I was like ... WOW!)

I am playing this with the Saitek Wheel ... and most of the time I am not pressing the gas pedal that hard ... (who drives a tractor at full speed on their farm anyways?)
(Using a keyboard to go forward ... you get max "gas" every time you press the "W" button ... this must be a big difference.)

Having less "exhaust" sound when pressing the pedal ... makes it feel as if there is a lot more "play" / less response in the gas pedal ... and this takes a lot of the driving experience away! :this:

I have tried changing the sensitivity for the gas pedal axis ... but this "curb" could need some tuning ... and more manual options for this in the menus would be welcomed!
As an example ... If setting this to 75% ... I need to engage the cruise control to gain max speed ... :confusednew:

So ... I just installed this game on my old old old iMac ...
It could barely handle it on the lowest settings ... but this is located at Adams room (Adam is 8 yo) ... and he wanted to play this on "his" computer.

The game looks like something from "Nintendo 8 bit" ... LOL
BUT ... the sound ... oh the sound ... *feeling a bit bummed about this* ... :neutralnew:

Still confused about why you changed this ...
Was someone actually complaining about the sound being to amazing !? ... :hmm:

So your pc and the old mac both run 1.3?Mac sound is better?U used headphones?Did u use onboard audio for both computers?

On my PC I use a nice pair of headphones ... but on the iMac ... even when using the crappy built in speakers of the monitor ... I could hear the difference ...
The exhaust sound is a lot more "vivid" on the mac (even at less gas "acceleration") ... and that is what I am missing since the 1.3 patch was installed on my PC.

After the update ... I can still hear the "exhaust sound" ... but not as much as before ... and other sounds as the sound of gravel and other tools running is taking over ...
The sound from the tractors is more "flat" now ... It is hard to explain ... :confusednew:

Please explain ... "onboard audio" ... :blushnew:
