I didn't do this in the versions before 17 but read it somewhere today and tested it out but it doesn't seem to work. I'm trying to collect straw with the RSM 1403 and the For Up 370 but it doesn't seem to work. Am I doing it wrong or is it a bug?

i checkec the information in the menu and it specifically says that you can turn straw into chaff..

You aren't wrong - the forage headers that typically handle this (EasyFlow, etc) don't have straw tagged as a viable input. This is probably an oversight (easy fix, you could actually edit the header's xml file yourself if it's the same as fs15).

I can't see a reason they would have done this on purpose, particularly since it's mentioned in 2 places in the ingame docs.

You would not collect straw with a forager typically- the thing would probably catch fire doing it. It is best baled and moved this way.

Okey, so even if it's a bug, I want to turn straw into silage, I guess this isn't possible now then without touching the xml files?

I have not gotten this far in my game yet ...

But in FS15 I was using this one, to collect straw, to create silage ...

I can test it with the easy flow specifically but I guess it will have the same output as the one I used

Nope, same result.. It doesn't pick it up

You can also see on the icons it should not pick up straw. The icons are for grass and hay.

So how do I make chaff out of straw then?

Correct. You can store it until it's fixed, though.

In any case, if you have the harvester - corn is a much better source of chaff.

I want to turn straw, hay and grass straight into stacks of money...skip the silage process and doing any actual hard work or have things work the way they should actually in real life...

The fu** am I supposed to do with all this?

here in our farm we make silage from grass in wrapped bales so i'm no expert at chaff, but as far as i know, straw has very low nutrition value so making silage from straw would be basically wasted money. Also i don't believe it would ferment well because its typically too dry and also hard to compact so it could spoil easily because of air left in it. What i'm saying is i don't think that this not working in FS17 is an oversight, it most likely was an oversight in FS15.

Get 90,000 cows and pigs..straw gone

If you are not into animal farming, just sell the straw at the new barn by the farm. You won't earn much though.
