When and with what to fertilize

I read a large part of the discussions about fertilizing and some say before others after others that 1 time others that 2 to 3 times fertilize. I have tried several methods and each time I was disappointed in the results, does anyone know what to do about it ???

On FS 20 you only have to fertilize once. The easiest thing to do is just use a planter with a built in fertilizer. Fert/plant at the same time. If you plant grass you only have to fert one time and its fertilized forever (unless you plow it up and plant something else).
