Possible Mission Bug

Post by FarmBoss » Fri Jul 12, 2019 7:30 pm

First, is anyone aware of any info regarding the collection of straw from harvest missions? I've seen it mentioned, but don't know if it's going to be fixed or allowed in the future.

Second, I accepted 2 harvesting missions, both for barley. Before I started, I decided to buy 1 of the fields, without cancelling the mission, but it was no longer listed on the mission screen.
When I harvested the field I just bought, and delivered the crop, I didn't get any money. Instead the crop delivery was counting toward the mission field which I hadn't even touched yet.

Has anyone else encountered the second?

If it is the same crop it will always go towards the mission first before being able to sell it as your own crop. No big deal though, same amount of crops.

I took the crop from a field I owned. It shouldn't count for a mission field from the other side of the map that I haven't even touched yet.
It is a big deal. If it were real life, and you decided to harvest and sell your own crop before starting your neighbors field, who should get paid for the crop from your own field?

If your selling the barley at the same sell point as the mission there is no way the game can determine if it’s yours or the missions. You’ll get the same amount of crop back just harvest the field from the mission. If you needed the money 1st your out of luck. Although turning in the crop 1st from your own harvest will result in less profit from the mission.

You can only accept one contract at a time in the base game so I'm guessing theres a mod at play here? As said above it would be difficult for the game to distinguish between your crop and that of the contract.
You can't bale the straw on these contracts but I'd like to see that as an option for a bigger pay out and slightly more of a challenge and to mix things up a bit.

I did have the multi mission mod the first time.
But I just tried again on Ravenport with zero mods.
I accepted a harvest mission on field 7 (soybeans) with the Ranch as the delivery point.
I purchased field 17 which was ready to be harvested (soybeans).
I went directly to 17, my field, and started harvesting. I took my soybeans from field 17 (my field) to the Ranch and it counted toward field 7 instead of paying me for my crop that I just harvested from my own field.
I guess I should fill out a bug report.

Again, it would be difficult for the game to distinguish your crop from that of the mission. It's all just Soybeans as far as the mission is concerned.
I wouldn't say it's a bug but you can make a report and see what they say.

That is no bug. The crop from the missions field is not marked as that. The game does not know, if that crop comes from your own field or the missions field. It would be impossible to do so.

But I don't see the problem here. If you have finished your own field, you might have already delivered enough crops to fullfil the contract.
Just go ahead and start harvesting the missons field. You can simply sell those crops just like your own. You will get the money, because you already have delivered enough crop for the contract.

I've done the same thing with silage bale contracts, as mentioned a few times already the game doesn't know or care where the crops(bales) are coming from, only that they are delivered.

the thing I tried was to deliver bales I already had, thinking I could then use a loading wagon to take the loose grass elsewhere, however the mission would only allow me to work with baler, so needless to say I still ended up with silage bales just trading my older bales for newer ones

the biggest issue I've had is if you save the game and exit after it says everything is delivered and mission complete, when in fact you still have harvesting to do on the field, when I reloaded it would not let me finish harvesting and when dumping the remaining crops at the sell point it was taking them with no money being paid. needless to say I restarted without saving anything, dumped the crops I had in the harvester and truck in my storage and completed the mission, then hauled the crops to the sell point in my own equipment.

Just keep in mind you will lose some of the profit doing this as I said before. When doing a harvest mission You only need to deliver 75% of the crop. Afterwards you just need to harvest the whole field. If you delivered 75% and finished harvesting the field your mission will be complete. You can do what you want with the rest of the crop. If you deliver it all before hand you have to deliver the 100% to complete the mission. Effectively losing that 25% bonus crop.

I'm sorry to disagree, but after another test, this is a bug.
As I was harvesting my own field, the progress for the mission didn't increase. So, the game should at least check of the mission field was harvested or not.

The way this is set up though the harvesting of the field and selling of the crop are two separate things. It's not a bug but more a suggestion for how things could be improved in the future perhaps.
As soon as you accept a mission the delivery point for the crop is locked out to the mission field so any crop you sell of the same type at that sell point will count towards the mission.
You're better off only selecting a harvest mission when you have time to do it to completion.

Think of missions as having 2 parts: harvesting the field and delivering to the designated selling point. Harvesting the entire field will complete about 80 percent of the mission. Delivering 75 percent ( I have actually had success with slightly less than this) of the total crop available will complete the remaining 20 percent of the mission. You can deliver the crop from any field of the correct crop type. If you harvest/sell more than the required amount of crop from the mission field to complete the mission and use your own equipment, you keep the profit from the crops sold but the game deducts the profits from your mission total, it counts this as "missing crops" resulting in wasted effort but no net loss of money. There is no such penalty if you lease the farmers equipment, allowing you to keep 100 percent of the crop profit at the expense of leasing and repairing the farmers equipment.

I don't understand why you are accepting missions and then buying the field your doing a mission on. Is it supposed to be some kind of money hack?

Yes. Especially useful for specialised crop like cotton, root veg or bailing as you can essentially borrow the equipment for free and get the crop.
