Cows not producing milk

What am I doing wrong?
I have bought 18 cows. Placed them in the smaller cow pen.
Fed them. Waterd them, gave them straw cleaned the pen.
At the moment I have them at 80% effeciency.
If I go to the menu that shows all the materials you have in storage. Milk remains empty even after waiting a number of in game days.
Is there something I'm forgetting?

have you tried feeding them TMR?

Not yet.
But I'm still getting 80% effeciency, so I expect they should be producing something.

Id get a vet to look at them, but TMR may help.

TMR is the key to milk it seems. At least in my runs of the game thus far.

I managed to fill this little clamp over 300k litres of maize chaff!

I think you have too wait till they have had their calf's, before they produce milk with seasons.

Yeah no sooner than I posted that message, I got on and looked and its says 154L of milk.

You buy female cows as heifers 1.9 years old. They will not produce milk until after the first calving. If a real lactation cycle is implemented, I think it is, it means that cows hereafter will produce variable amounts of milk until they become dry for about two months before the next calving.

Try and Google "lactation curve dairy cow". In real life, heifers are inseminated at about 14-15 months of age to calf when 23-24 months old. Things are delayed a bit in Farming Simulator. They probably want you to have the cow for all 9 months of the gestation period. There are a lot of real-life rules in Seasons way of handling animals, so we have to learn more about husbandry to make use of it.

Which cows produce milk? Would it help if I buy just the cows that give milk?

holsteins and arshire give milk on seasons havent tried the rest. also my spelling may be off.
