Does the grass grow back after terrain editing?
Does the grass grow back after terrain editing?
Has anyone found out if the grass grows back on the areas you edit the terrain on?
Thanks

1. Terraform
2. Plow (allow create)
3. Seed grass
4. Roller (if wanting AI field boundary active)
Grass will grow back through the rolled area in #4

Oh, I’m sorry, I thought this was America.

But the texture is not the same on a plowed terrain.GenXFarmer wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 7:15 am 1. Terraform

Look at my test (plowed + grass in center & terrain terraformed around)
Yep, major difference...

Can confirm this.

Re: Does the grass grow back after terrain editing?
From my playing around...
-If you don't roll an area, it will remain a field and look like the bright green areas in the pics above.
-My experience with a Mod "Roller" left the areas bright green like the pics above and remained a field. (can't remember the name of it, it wasn't a roller)
-After rolling, the ground will remain flat with no grass UNTIL IT GROWS. The grass will take a little while to start, but it will grow.
-Whatever texture you left under the plowed field will return after you roll it. If you had dirt, it will return to dirt. If you had dense grass green it will return to it.
Some fun things you can do to make some really neat looking areas...
-The different textures will affect how much and where grass will grow. Both "full green" textures will grow full grass. The 1/2 mud, 1/2 grass texture will grow grass in the green areas. No grass will grow in dirt, mud or stone. You can use this to create spotty grass or grass lines into the stone for some really nice looking hills.
-You can use the roller and new fields to create interesting field boundaries like dirt paths or muddy areas in lower field elevations that look like run off areas.
-To create a little stone out crop, make a "sharp" little jut out of a small hill. Vary the size of the circle tool and place stone, spotty grass and then grass as you progress outward. Plow everything around the area and plant grass seed and then roll the snot out of all of it. It'll look dull and like you just painted texture. Wait till the grass grows remembering it could take a couple days or more to kick in and start. Once it grows in you'll see it can really look good if you do it right.
This is a little stone I added to hide the vertical that forms when you try to lower around a road:
I did exactly as I said above, mixing greens, 1/2 and 1/2 dirt grass and stone, plowed over all of it, planted grass and then rolled everything including the stone. You can see that the grass grows differently depending on what texture is under it.
The key to all of this is to remember the grass will grow after a day or two just like other plants, it isn't instant. The base textures you use always return to an area after you roll them. Remember if you don't roll it proper it will remain a field if you plow it and plant it with grass seed and will act accordingly. You can always tell where those areas are as they will always be that bright, odd limey green color.
Also note that weeds and shrubs do not return, which I find kinda sad...
Hope that helps....
Cheers..!

To get the grass to grow is a bit of work but it is worth it
See the topic on the Lizard R5000 roller in FS17 being transformed to FS 19
The new roller is a bit of a waste of time the old one is far better to operate
I have not seen any weeds growing on the new grass
When you place say the sheep pen I always plough (allow create fields) round the area
You have to have made the area round the fence grass texture first
Then plough the area you want to be grass
Sow grass on the area
and it is important that you go over the area before the grass starts to grow
If the grass has started to grow it does not work the same
Go over with the roller - the grass will grow through where you went over with the roller

Re: Does the grass grow back after terrain editing?
Having to plow every area that you want to paint grass on is a real pain. We have to be able to paint grass foliage and bushes, that's what we need. With the editor we are able to paint grown grass and bushes. We need that in this tool.

Re: Does the grass grow back after terrain editing?
Yes leonara@videotron.ca you are right it is a pain but when you do this in GE you have to alter the zip file and save it and this makes it so no one else can play with you in MP and
once you change the map in GE you have to start another savegame for your changes to take effect. That can be a bigger pain
It is not perfect but it works and there is some pleasure to see the outcome after you have done it
I don't play much on MP (only with my grandson) and used to go into GE and make the changes I wanted and for the changes to take affect I had to start over - That was a pain
As I say this is not perfect but it is better than before
