Feeding the cows

Is there any kind person who can help me with this. It says that cows should have Total Mixed Ration. but how to mix this up. Has a Straumann VM 1702 and tries to mix as you do in FS17 grass straw and silage, but it does not work. FS 17 there was a Mischfutter station, missing it for FS19 or I missed something.

You should use hay, not grass?

I do 25% straw, 25% hay, 50% silage. Others use different mixtures, I may start using less silage in 19 as it seems to be worth more.

I do 50% Hay, 25% Straw and 25% Silage, works fine.

Not the Straugtmann mixer though, get the 16000l capacity one and load bales into it, so easy.

Never understood why they mix in straw for TMR. Straw is used for bedding and not a food source. All you need is hay and silage, save your straw for bedding if you want manure.

The point is that straw is WAY cheaper, and you get it anyway when doing cereal crops.

I usually make mine 40% tmr, 40% hay, and 20% straw.

Straw is a good alternative in rations for cows and sheep if properly supplemented with higher quality feedstuffs
