Subsoiler ... confusing!

Post by W1der »

In the shop it says that a subsoiler can be used instead of a plow.

But in fact it is leaving the same texture as a cultivator would.

Also ... using it with AI it will work through soil that as already been worked with a plow ...
I noticed this as I was joining two fields with a regular plow while AI was going over one of the fields with a subsoiler ... :smileynew:

So, is it a plow or a cultivator? ... :hmm:

It does the job of both. It will take away the ‘needs plowing’ state but can’t be used for plowing contracts. Also you can’t create fields with them.

I agree suboilsers in 19 are quite confusing. They behave as a combination plough and cultivator. In reality they do neither of these things. Subsoiling is a unique operation different from both ploughing and cultivating. To use them realistically there would need to be another field condition (say "subsoil compaction") that would be reset by subsoiling, much as the "needs ploughing" field condition is presently used. In their current incarnation subsoilers are sort of wedged in to the game mechanics in a peculiar way, similarly to how in 17 weeders, rollers, and sprayers all just contributed a fertilizer state, when in reality none of them really do that.

I just wish we could use the subsoilers to create fields because them plows are a pain to work with.

In 17 they where just plows ... right!?

I like that they can not ... as I can use it as a plow without accidentally create a field ... :blushnew:

There were cultiplows in 17 but you couldn’t create fields with them. There were mods of straight plows in 17, or square plows, not sure of them correct term, they looked very similar to the cultiplows that we have in 19.

Those were the jympa plows in FS17, like a very flat triangle.

Iirc only the bednar in the big bud dlc was called cultiplow, that and the Kuhn subsolier were under cultivators.

Ah ok,I thought there were more in 17.

It was the jympa plows I was thinking of that looked like the ones we have in 19, also there was a mod one. Can’t remember the make but it was blue and could be used on either the front or back of the tractor. May have been lemkin.

The CASE Ecolo-Til became my go to. It was the widest of all and a very well done mod.
