Farms helping each other out.

Post by xxSnowmanxx »

IS there going to be anyway for farms in a dedicated server to create contracts so other players on diff farms can help each other out. Not making much since to have more than 1 farm and not be able to help each other out somehow.

Edit don_apple: moved from "Modding" to "General Discussion", since this doesn't seem to be related to creating/changing mods for the game.

How would you mechanise this?

First you will need to be able to allow others to buy land in the owner of the server game. You will need to be able to give players cash to start with or the ability to loan cash (and should the server owner be able to do this or get money that others cannot?). Then you need to have a way to add your own payments to the list of NPC generated tasks. And, unlike with the NPC contracts, you need some way to say to the actual human who owns that field that the contract is not taken and there is now a need for the owner to do it, and that human needs to be able to take the contract off before they start so there's no doubling up on people starting the work.

Will the calculation be done the same way as it is done for contracts for harvesting? So that you only get a fraction of the results? Would it be complete at the not-100% for all contracts, so that you hire out to another player but get a worse job for higher wages than if you'd paid an NPC for? So should this remove the ability to get NPCs to do the work by you hiring workers? If you have hiring of NPCs still on, there's no need for the contract: npcs work FAR cheaper than a player would do the work for and complete the job near perfectly.

Since contracts are saved as XML files what preventions for cheating by editing the file on the server (if it is owned ON that server) should take place? What if the contracts don't synch properly? What happens if the job isn't completed, abandoned? NPCs just magically change state because the game controls them and the NPC didn't buy the game. Human players did.

When selecting such a multiplayer system what info should be there about your ability to buy land? How much land is left TO buy? Do you get to see where this land is? And what about people leaving and never coming back? What happens when you kick someone off who has land, cash, loans and items in that game?

Easy to ask for unspecified things. When implementing them you can't leave it at "farms in a dedicated server to create contracts so other players on diff farms can help each other out". Computers need explicit explanations.
