Request/challenge for Modders

Post by Rwfrazerjr » Sun Mar 24, 2019 8:35 am

First, I'd like to say thanks to all the Modders out there! Sincerely, you are what keep this game going. Specifically, this is for console mods since there are more limitations due to scripts. LOOKING VERY FORWARD TO SEASONS BEING RELEASED AGAIN!! With it, I'd love to see something added either in conjunction with it (would make more sense) or if separate, have it work with it as for pricing. Let me explain. This is really a two part request, so please bear with me.

(I'm glad the heating plant is back but here is my thought. In FS 17, you were able to add this to property you didn't own. I've not yet tried it in this one. ). If not, having it changed to such would be great.

I'd love to see something like this added as an actual sell point that shows a market price that. Same thing for a sell point that will only take small logs, 1 meter or less as a place to sell firewood. If there is a way of having multiple ones but with separate market prices it would be great. At the same time, the market price would actual drop to $0 once they don't need anymore. Again, would be a nice addition with seasons to be able to add these sell points to various homes on the map to where you can deliver firewood in the fall and winter months. During seasons it gives you something more to do than just cutting trees and taking them to one sell point (the saw mill).

I used to do the same thing with the heating plant but since it never showed a price I just dropped a load once or twice a season to each heating plant that I had placed around the map.

To give you an idea (again, remember I'm on a console so I can't edit a map and need to do this manually). On the default map, I've used the money cheat to buy up a few pieces of land (and with the landscape tool I've recontoured them). After doing so, I plant a few additional forrest areas. I'll then sell it all back and get my money back to where it would be to start. But I have areas that need cleared in order to then have fields or to enlarge fields just depending on the area. This is really only doable with seasons because it gives you time to do logging while waiting for everything else.

Any other additional sell points would be great, specifically ones that compete on prices for things like wool, logs, chips, even manure and slurry.

Might as well mention it here, but would like to see a mid size dump truck. Also the excavator from 17 but would like to see full log harvesting head, not just the cutter.

Edit don_apple: topic moved from german to english section.

First off, I will profess I had some difficulty following your proposal....

If I understand you correctly, with your original point about sell points, you are basically asking for wood harvesting/delivery contracts (with increased conditions, such as log length, and increased delivery points) and/or more sellpoints to accept lumber/woodchips?

Not sure I understand you correctly regarding the requirement to use the Seasons mod in order to have "enough time" to harvest lumber. Personally, I find plenty of time to harvest lumber either for clearing space for field expansion/extension, for profit, or just for "something else" to do. What speed are you playing on? If anything above x1, why not try playing at a lower speed, even if only for the duration of the activities you feel you do not have enough time for?

With regards to your point about sell points "competing" on prices, this is already incorporated into the underlying pricing algorithm. That being said, I do agree with the sentiment about having more than one place to sell select items such as wood(chips), manure and slurry. If you focus on specific farming activities, much of the map can remain unused/unseen (because you are always going to the same 1-3 sell points).

As for your latter two "ideas", I think they would receive better attention if they were as fleshed out more. Try explaining why such items would be beneficial to the game - what do they bring to the table that isn't already present (albeit maybe not in the visual form you are seeking)?

I think "firewood" (<1m logs as you describe) is a cool idea for a new commodity and your proposal for multiple small volume, high value, seasonal delivery points for such would be a fun mechanic. I would totally incorporate such a system as a winter activity into a playthrough sometime. Every map I play I try to come up with a different winter routine so I can use different equipment and a different economic model, and this one would be great.

As to the small dumptruck and the forestry head for an excavator, in the context of your idea it seems pretty obvious what they would be for and what new functionality they would bring. They would be a natural mid-range upgrade to a firewood business from the pickup and chainsaw method, without going industrial with a full-on semi-trailer and automated feller-buncher-delimber.

I give this proposal of yours an imaginary internet stamp of recognition and 1.6 meaningless invisible gold stars *thumbsup* *thumbsup*

BSM is working on bringing the excavator they had in fs17 to 19, have you thought about using a hooklift truck as a dumptruck? BSM is also working on the 850 hooklift truck.

@DirectCedar - just curious, how do you consider an excavator with a "full log harvesting head" sufficiently different from the existing in-game harvesters? Is price the sole delineation?

I personally believe forestry could use some fleshing out, especially in the mid-range. One of the things I appreciated about the BSM Excavator in FS17 was that the tree cutter was a step up from the way I used to do things (either chainsaw or tractor-mounted treesaws) at a mid-range cost. More of a stepping stone, rather than a cheaper (but fully functional) alternative to the ScorpionKing. Ideally, I think there should be 2-3 forestry specific machines in the mid-range, that cost-wise, are less than the high-end harvesters. The trade-off is between efficiency and cost.

One of my favourite mods from FS15 was a Forestry-edition Fendt that had a crane arm with harvester head mounted at the rear (while retaining all trailer hitches and the 3pt) - one stop shopping for all your wood harvesting requirements, at a very reasonable price! Problem was, it was too effective - I could cut the tree down, cut it to length, de-limb it, and drop it in the logging trailer I was towing behind. There was no need for me to work my way up to the larger harvester or forwarder.

Agree with the dump truck, but again - that functionality is already available using existing trailers and the iTRunner elements - so from my perspective, I see it as a visual alternative, not a functional one. Granted, I don't believe there are any iTRunner trucks available to consoles yet (haven't touched my PS4 in ages - too busy playing FS19 on PC!), so that does limit those seeking the visual effect of having a truck with a dump body.

Yes, this came out just days after this post. Have been. Works well. 17 had a more squared bed for the one hooklift truck. Really like it. Don't want to be picky but front engine vs undercab design would be ideal.
