Hi,

since this thread is on PCs, i'll join with my questions:
My Win7 S.M.A.R.T. tells me, that the SSD should be replaced.... so i am looking for a good 120GB model... can you point me to one?
Also, i am thinking of reinstalling my PC and upgrading to Win10 in the process... I read, that i can still activate Win 10 with my Win 7 Pro key. Is this true?
Would you recommend upgrading? My system is a Phenom II 955BE on a Asus M4A87TD, 2x4GB RAM, AMD Radeon R9 270X 2GB

I'd definitely recommend upgrading the entire PC. So in that, I'd actually recommend going to a 256 GB or 512 GB SSD if you can. As far as reinstalling windows 7 as windows 10 using the same key, I do not believe you can anymore, they had it to where you could upgrade it from 7 to 10 for about a year after the launch of Windows 10 but I believe they are no longer doing that, so you'll likely need to buy a new license, which you could get decently cheap if you look around.

Hi,

as my PC still runs FS and WoWS well, i do not intend updating the system. I thought of prolonging its life with a new, reasonably priced SSD, and maybe a fresh install of the OS.
I saw 240/256GB SSDs for ~30€... I think that is acceptable ...

Are you sure you want to trust your pc with a cheap SSD?

That's pretty much the going rate for a 250GB SSD at the moment. I was looking at getting another SSD as I ditched my 1TB HDD recently and prices for brands I trust were around the £110 mark for 1TB or £70 for 500GB. 250GB are in the region of £30-40.

Hi,

that is why i am seeking your advice here: since i read, that Lexar is now chinese-owned, i don't trust the names.
(And apart from that: I do backups of my data regularly to a dedicated system)

I’ve got a 4gb gpu with only 2gb of ram. I can only reach about 32fps. Will upgrading to
8gb of ram affect my FPS?

It potentially could. Before doing that though, I'd recommend downloading and installing msi afterburner, and checking your usages with that in game, as you'll be able to see what is actually causing the low fps.

Yes, win10 alone requires 2gb of ram usually

Well as you can see everything is up and running, new MB & CPU Cooler, but still no screen. At start up I do get the beep and the green light is on, you can see it just above the psu. I have taken out the gtx card (tried both hdmi connections) and used the hdmi on MB and same thing, also tried 2 different monitor/tv's, each time that I remove the cable the monitor wakes up then goes back to power save mode. I have tried with only 1 2mb ram, and also changed the hdmi cable. What else can I try? Maybe I should just take it into a computer repair shop and ask if they would now a cause, but would like to hear if y-all would have any other suggestions before I spend more money.
Thanks, Ron

I would go to tom's hardware forum or Linus tech tips form, as you'd get more people that would be able to help you. without actually seeing the problem happen though, I'm having a hard time figuring out what's wrong

I have a pc! Now it's what I had intended but I got it for very little and I think it's better I have something cheap to fiddle with before I start handling expensive hardware.
So it's a Dell i7 4th gen with 8gb ram and 500gb hardrive in a minitower. It's basically those ex-business machines you see on ebay for £couple hundred. I have a 4gb GTX970 to go in but I need to remove the metal HD caddy to make room and a 500W, gold rated full mod BeQuiet! PSU also going in. I lowered my expectations to something that should be a bit better than an XBone. if it all works out I'll be looking at motherboards, more ram, storage and a better case in the new year. The case really is a POS and the GPU looks huge in there.

Thanks SM,
I already sent in the comp to X-PCzone here in Los Angeles and he stated that he would tear apart the machine and reinstall everything, double checking that components are working correctly, everything is new except the HDD & Optical Drive. It's only costing a flat $80 US and since I tried everything possible that I could think of and from suggestions here I decided that would be the best for now. We will see today what he has to say. Thanks again every-one for the help.
I appreciate your effort.
