as to why the light range seems "broken" may boil down to the fall off.. the lights in the game have a sharp fall off.. irl it would be more gradual.. it wouldnt extend the light distance greatly.. but you wouldnt notice the fall off being so sharp.. maybe with improvements to the new lighting engine for 21 as well as advancements in rendering tech across the board, we hopefully will see improvements in this area

good to know.. now I am going to have to include insurance for my other equipment.. I already include a fee for my tractor and harvester policy as I was certain they would be insured but I didnt know if you would insure the tools or not.. makes sense.. when I turned wrenches, my snap on tool box and everything in it was covered.. farming on the other hand, I could have been called a farm hand at most and had no involvement in things like insuring the machines lol

It is more insurance as like a tornado or a fire would burn or ruin everything. There is warranty you can get on the equipment but our stuff is too old.

Our combine and 8r are the only things still covered with warranty I think.

Any light in FarmSim can have it's range, colour, cone shape and drop off adusted. You could do this in Fs17 as well.

However in Farm Sim a lot of models do not actually interact with light properly as shadow rendering eats up performance.
You notice this if you place a light inside a barn, if the radius is set to high you can see the light glow outside the barn through solid walls.

It would seem GIANTS set the headlights to a low range to minimize that negative effect.

Basically a compromise of aesthetics and performance.

thanks for explaining that :) I guess I can see that logic from Giants.. I mean.. lighting in general is super taxing.. adding in shadows just amplifies things.. sometimes we just have to work with whats in front of us and that often means compromise

Any object over 18 meters is impossible to see
All tractors in these photos have working headlights and are on
The harvester has 20 headlights. 20 headlights and it's impossible to see at night

I know it is a little worse, but it is mostly likely because how bullet bill described it. It is a game and it isn't that far off.

I had never worked the farm with grandpa at night.. but I have done all manor of other stuff at night... many a lonely night on the highway with nothing but floating lil orange lights down either side of me and the highway visible in front of me.. night time is typically very isolated in big machines.. even a semi truck, on a dark section of road at night, seems like its a million miles from anything.. nothing exists but the road in front of you for what seems like hours sometimes.. squinting under the occasional road lights like *hisssssss*

Yeah, using heavy equipment in the dark is a recipe for disaster. I'm absurdly light sensitive and see quite well indeed at night but there's no way in heck you'd catch me trying to use heavy machinery in real life in the dark. You literally couldn't pay me enough and I used to jump out of perfectly good airplanes for a living!
