Ballydorn Farm

Post by BreadedVirus »

Go check it out. It is available to download on NEXUS MODS website. Another very nice Irish themed map.

The one and only Farmer Klein has done a YOUTUBE video on it.

Well thank you breadedvirus for the complements on the video. A big thanks goes out to the map author OYEEBO for bringing the map forward from 17 to 19. Sadly I hear the map has been spread throughout the internet now on the various rehost sites with a download link from somewhere other than nexusmods. If by chance anyone got the map from a link that was not nexusmods I strongly suggest checking your system for potential malware. Nexus mods is the only place the map was properly uploaded and any other download site linking to anything other than nexus mods could be linking you to an altered copy of the map.

Oyeebo probably should have gone through the Modhub (great looking map), or if they did try to get it on to Modhub should have persevered.

Wombles, Oyeebo as best I can tell has moved on to other things but wanted to bring this map back for 19. In essence he reached out to me back in Sept or Oct last year about the map and wanted to offer the map to me to do what I wanted with it. Release it or keep it private. I was totally floored at this offer. He worked with me through testing phases and making corrections but in the end he was clear it was my choice of where and when to release the map. For me the idea and prospect of working through the issues with Giants was not something I would ever consider. The map plays with out issue on PC and likely could have taken weeks to months of back and forth to make it on the Giants modhub for console. In the end it just was not worth the time, at least that is how I saw it.

In the end it was a great honor to release the map for him.

It's a shame this won't see console. It would have been a top 5 if not top 3 for sure as far as I'm concerned.

Don't blame Oyeebo or you Aklein, getting a map through Giants seems to be a real chore. I only mentioned it as they might have got some coin for there efforts.

No worries FK.

Secondly, I’ve been steering people to the original download link (nexusmodd) as I feel it’s only right that it gets downloaded at the specified website.

How do the field definitions look on this map from anyone who's played it or currently playing. I was playing Greenwich Valley but the field definitions and sizing are so bad on the map and the lack of contracts on field, mean I need to change the map on my server. I've this afternoon loaded up This is Eire by lancyboi from the ModHub and that has the same probably with fields that haven't been defined and had their sizes set correctly on the map. So before I go to Nexus Mods and download the map, can anyone shed any info on the fields?

Farmer Klein has done a tour of this map on his channel, it will let you see for your self. I never downloaded it as i'm on Shamrock, but fields look good from what I seen.

The fields look good yes from screenshot, and I've watched Farmer Kleins video, as I did previously with Greenwich Valley and also This is Eire, but he doesn't test field definitions and sizing in his reviews. That's why you use a console command or the Easy Dev Command Mod to change fields to be ploughed, cultivated, harvested or change the crop planted on them. This is how you tell if the fields have been set up properly in the map file and have had the fields correctly done on their layer on the map. Because when you start making changes using the Commands, on maps with the definitions and sizing incorrect, you'll only get small square or rectangular patches of a field changing and not the entire field. This then causes problems with contracts and also AI Workers, which won't work properly on fields which have incorrect definitions and sizes.

Just checked 3 fields with Easy Dev Command Mod and it seems to have been set up correctly as crops, cultivating and fertilising cover all the fields area so would say you will be safe with this one.

Yeah I've just loaded up the map in game and tested it myself, and it seems all fields look good. One or two I noticed actually got a bit bigger after running the commands. One now has a few trees down one edge, which I may need to manually fix myself in the Editor.

I'll also check in the Editor tomorrow that all fields have Contracts and Missions available. As I notice a lot of Map Reviewers and First Look Videos also seem to miss checking this.

Playing it myself now and first impressions are very good hope you get on with it and don't find too many issues.

Well I'm hoping to use it on a Server, I have uploaded Greenwich Valley, Shamrock and This is Eire and we've found problems on all three, so hopefully Ballydorn will fix that. Does seem weird to me that 3 maps on Giants ModHub that supposedly they have tested and passed, have issues with field definitions, wrong field sizes and no missions/contracts, yet a private map, uploaded by the author to Nexus Mods, with no testing or input from Giants seems to be working perfectly.
