For the initial pass? Maybe pull the trailer.
Where space is limited, it makes sense.

After the first pass its less efficient to pull a trailer with the harvester.
Once the trailer is full, the harvester has to stop.
Then you're either swapping trailers or using the harvester to transport the load.

A smarter way would be having a pair of tractors pulling trailers to follow the harvester.
That way the harvester keeps working.

They may do it IRL but they don't harvest an entire field that way.

People are "gaming the system" by hooking oversized trailers so the AI can do all the work.
IRL that heavy trailer would slow and possibly stall the harvester.

Its a game, do what you want. I just tend to play more toward the realistic side of things.

Using something like the T-rex trailer would not be rigging the game, I agree pulling a large trailer behind the chopper is not the most efficient in game or real life, however I don't care to play with others so using a dumping trailer on the chopper, and running back and forth with another trailer is .ore efficient for 1 player. And still realistic.

I have the AI drive the harvester and just follow it myself.
That way you don't have to unload the harvester repeatedly.

Look up the machines on YouTube and see how they are used IRL.

We will do an entire field irl with switching wagons, but the h&s wagons we have, have a concern on top and there are none like it on console on game. There are multiple ways to get the same thing done. Also not every part of the world is there same, so unrealistic for you, might be realistic for someone else.

Most of the time you will see older forage harvesters pull a trailer (at least where I'm from)

We used to run a pair of Dion F41 pulltypes with a fleet of rear unload Meyer wagon ranging from 18 feet to 22 feet. Now we have a SP chopper with a couple new wagons. Never did corn with the pull types though. Sad to see them go

Ok, I know I’ve said I’ve got the solution before, but I am 99% sure I got it this time.

The new three point attacher mod got released today and hooks up to trailer hitches. So, hook that up to your harvester, THEN hook up the Adpater mod (3-point to ball hitch) to the three point! Now you can do any trailer!

I can confirm this works but and yes a but again with the john deere harvester and the work around with the 3 point to ball hitch we got a few weeks ago the combination gets heavy and lifts up the front off the forage harvester

Illinois Farmer ~ You pull trailers behind a self propelled forage harvester?
Got pictures? (Not doubting just curious what that setup looks like)
Is it common in Illinois? Or just on your farm?

We don't but we have neighbors that do because they use our wagons and you can't blow it from the side. It has to be blown in from straight on. We use a pull type chopper.

Ok, I know what you're doing now. :)
Many of the trailed harvesters are meant to also pull a trailer.
I think the OP was talking about self propelled machines though.

Yeah, I know. The neighbors pulled our trailers with a self propelled one.
