Wild West Map

Post by FarmCatJenkins » Mon Feb 10, 2020 8:58 pm

Just saw this on Yesmods. Anyone try it out yet? it's an 8x map. I'm kind of curious to slap it onto my laptop to see if it melts lol.

I was reading about it and the biggest field is over 2000 acres. That's more than all that I farm IRL!

800ha field, it will take a week to harvest this one, even the smaller fields are so huge on this map.
Good map for people who think the fields are too small on the other maps.

To be honest i have never harvested a field bigger than 100ha, so it felt already a little bit too big...

It looks like a great map to have Big Buds and huge implements.

Definitely would be a good multiplayer map. The guy on yesmods said it took him 18 minutes to run a cultivator one strip on that field.

In theory you can make a fully playable map as small as 30mb. It's the textures of unique buildings and objects which take up most of the space.

Through good forward planning, frugal use of texture arrays and referencing in-game assets where possible you can get even the most detailed maps at around 400mb. For example a modmap of Felsbrunn for example is only 183mb. A 16x extension of Felsbrunn could still be around 200mb taking into account additional buildings (the 3D layout) and larger ground weight files.

I got a recommendation a while back to run this, but my laptop is so similar in spec to El Niño that I don’t know if it would take it. I run Medicine Creek fairly smooth, but the lag is ever so slightly there. Then again, if I can run for a few hours on a Continental Europe server, I think the computer will be fine (true story, I did go onto a Europe server)

Would it make any difference if I had that map on a server, so my laptop is just connecting to it? Was kind of interested in starting up a MP server and this looks like the perfect map for me.

I think if you are of similar specs to the laptop I use, Medicine Creek will run fine. I can do high graphics on mine with a little bit of lag (I probably exaggerated in that last post on the lag, only happens when I turn quickly), but I play on medium because I don't do YT videos on FS or anything special. I would be super excited to play on a MP server with you on that map. Definitely worth doing, it requires MP because I started a singleplayer save, but I don't know if I'll continue because I don't know if I can handle it alone.

I actually found it by watching The Squad do a video of it on YT. Watch it to get a full tour of the map, and also, if you have trouble finding the triggers, search Medicine Creek triggers and there is a good vid somewhere in there on it. I think it is a very good map, just hard to handle alone because it is a 4x map. It has an added crop of alfalfa, and also adds alfalfa, corn, and soybeans to the requirements for cattle (the focused animal of the map. There is a train, but do not be alarmed if you teleport to it and you are underground, it's turnaround is outside the map "border". If you want to, you can also walk right off the map  . Detail is in good supply, and the traffic on the main highway are increased to 55 mph for increased realism, just hard to get out of the dealership because someone is sure to T-bone you  .It is a very solid Midwest map, built for MP but handles SP games for those who are daring. I might try to get a MP game going, maybe with Farm Cat if he is interested, but definitely give this map a shot.
