Crop withering

Post by Beanbrother »

Very frustrating to see the amount of crop withering with seasons in place. Everything has been done properly as far as planting goes. moisture right and no drought and no frost yet a very large amount of the field has patches of withering. Does this not reflect poorly on the seed? I feel bad for pioneer

What time of year are you planting? Have you checked the soil temp against the planting temp?

Would be interested in seeing a screenshot of your map to show withering

It’s The patchy wither. Not the whole crop if that’s what your thinking. I’ve also have combined since, and this yr seems to be a drought yr. so I guess we will see what happens.

Speaking of drought I’m pretty sure if you plant when the soil moisture is below 20% you run the risk of germinating failure. I did that on Lone Oak one year where it didn’t rain at all in spring and not until mid summer and when my crops finally hit the first growth stage half of them were ruined haha.

Well, according to the seasons menu, drought damage occurs when soil moisture is under 12%.

That's why right now I'm holding off on putting my canola in, only 9% moisture but supposed to get rain in a couple of days. We'll see if that happens. If it does, it'll be a mid spring planting and I hope I'll be able to bring it in before weather turns.

How do you measure moisture? I tried to buy the $5000 tool in misc category, but I didn't get it to do anything at all..

You have to hold the key/button down for a few seconds on the field.

Also, make sure it is pointed at the ground. I would be aiming at the top of a crop to check moisture and it wouldn't detect. Aimed at my feet and it did! I just can't believe it cost $5k......

Ah ok it’s 12%. 20 must be for wetness that you can’t harvest.
