When you finish a contract and the result screen pops up. What is the reimbursement line for?

If you borrow equipment to do the contract, they reimburse you back the cost of any seed or fertiliser left in the seeder etc

It should be noted that you are only reimbursed if you borrow the equipment. If you use your own equipment, you aren't reimbursed. Supposedly, the pay from the contract should reimburse you for whatever fertilizer, spray, or seed you use, but I haven't done the math to confirm this.

I conducted a simple test on the Elm Creek map with a fertilizing job. Before accepting the contract, I saved my game and then took the job using borrowed equipment, making a note of how much fertilizer I started with (1,000 liters) and how much I used for the job (250 liters). I then quit and reloaded my saved game and took the same job, this time using my own equipment. I started and ended the job with the same amount of fertilizer as before. Calculating the amount I was paid minus the cost of fertilizer I used, I found it was more profitable to use my own equipment even with the reimbursement from the borrowed equipment.

yeah, that is usually the case for all contracts, even factoring in repairs (but not repainting).

Although I am not 100% sure with this regarding baling contracts, but usually you get quite a decent amount of extra bales so it doenst really matter.
