Only real question is where to draw the line in the sand, because teens are one thing, but a 9 year old and a clueless parent going “it’s a car driving game” (something like say Smashy road, which I just lost everyone by saying...) only to have their kid in the principal office for talking about illegal stuff is another.


Not to unreasonable of a situation:
Kid: Mommy can I buy this game?
Parent (who’s slightly computer inept): Hmm, let’s see it’s a video game with cars, must be a police chase game, and if my kid wants it it must be fine. So ok.
Kid: plays it and picks up some vocabulary/ideas, and the goes to school. Gets in trouble in any variety of situations.
Parent: Why was my kid able to find this? And maybe some Google usage: Why did my kid want a video game that broke gambling laws (Casino thing happened when I followed tech) and exposes them to that stuff.
Or for a parent of a teen who plays it and also happens to do some illegal stuff, there is correlation (correlation, not necessarily causation) and it’s easy to see how stuff like wanting to ban it happens.
So not commenting on whether banning it (and the precedent that would create) is a good idea or not, just attempting to put some perspective of how parents would want that, and where a kid could actually be “harmed” by it (a teenager should have a decent bearing on don’t do that, but a elementary kid who got it somehow and isn’t purely using it as a driving game may not.)

(My example may be a poor one, but hopefully it gets the idea that both sides of the debate have good reasons/intentions)

It is very poor and once again it is rated m on the case and only sold if over 18. I knew this game all through elementary school and never felt like committing a crime. My friends all played it too. I knew every cuss word in the book since like 1st grade and many farmer kids do. Kids know more now than then because of access to internet and movies are letting more things slip than before. Also it is ultimately the parents fault not the creators of the game. Also froma mathematical stand point, that's not a correlation. People use that word without actually knowing how it works. A correlation is not a cause and effect as you describe. There are too many parameters that could be altered or changed for it to a correlation between two objects.

I taught mathematics I studied statistical analysis, your data wood be looking like a scatter plot. If placed kids on the x axis with crimes on the y, and rescorted data and found the r value than you could decide the correlation exist or not, until then you are just speculating with no data reinforcement. I did read the definitions... specifically the last line of the correlation definition.
As for correlation, it’s a similar data set or vaccines causing Autism, lots play video games, and a small sect commit crimes.
And all I’m arguing is that there are arguments for banning GTA, not that it’s a good idea or bad.

Good examples, hahaha, both are statistical flawed. Here let's start over. What is correlation? Correlation is a statistical measure that expresses the extent to which two variables are LINERLY related (meaning they change together at a CONSTANT rate). It's a common tool for describing simple relationships without making a statement about cause and effect. Now your examples, vaccines CAUSED Austin, correlations can't decide that. Whatever your second says lots plays videos game, I assume you mean kids play videos games and crimes. For the data to a correlation you need both variables to go up together or down together, NO IN BETWEEN otherwise NO CORRELATION EXIST. Take a random sample from this forum, I would guess you would see a negative correlation to people playing video games and crimes. Take a poll from kids playing gta, I would guess your data wouldn't allow you to see a correlation between the two variables. Multiple reports get skewed to fit their narrative. Now, it ultimately fails onto the parents and the parents need to buck up and take responsibility. End of story.
