Holme Wold Farm

Post by tom1979 »

So I finally got around to finding and downloading Holme Wold Farm last night. All I can say is WOW! It's huge! And very detailed. I can see myself spending a lot of time on there! There's very little about it on the internet, anyone else here playing on it ?

I was going to play it, it's so huge that it was going to be my first real go using Contractor Mod, along with Autodrive and Courseplay, but one thing and another -- mostly other farms and other things to do -- and I haven't really got around to it.

It's a lot bigger than it looks! I started ploughing field 53 which on the map looks to be one of the smallest fields - courseplay reported it was going to take 1hr20 with the 8m Cultiplow!! Looking at the other field sizes which are much bigger I had to ditch that idea and get a 24m cultivator, modify it and replace my 7310R with an 9RX ! I usually play much smaller maps and use tractors like the JD 6930 with implements around 4-6m!

I just starting playing it a few days ago. I was itching for a UK based 4x map after watching Clarkson's Farm.

Is it recognisable in real life?

My job in construction takes me to many farms in the area with 102 farm visits so far this year. I know the area well and can say for the most part is very recognisable. The parts that are not, are changes for gameplay such as shops and sell points. Anyone who drives the area will know the wolds can have some really steep slopes to challenge farmers and this is well represented. The map has so many options on what type of farm to run given the many farms with sleep triggers. Auto Drive and Courseplay very much recomended even if you start with just the initial setup of fields.

I'm running 12 day seasons and have a 320hp Valtra S on a 9m Salford. My Ai working 6 til 6 is well ahead of planting on the initial start fields. I don't feel the need for big equipment yet. Maybe when i expand next season.
